LEMOORE - The old lady needs some new make-up.

The Sarah A. Mooney Memorial Museum is one of Lemoore's treasures and this year's fund-raiser will help maintain its appearance.

According to event organizer Val Fernald, this year painting of the building is first on the never-ending fix-it list.

"Painters are already at work on the main building and we hope to have all buildings painted by this time next year," Fernald said.

The museum houses archives from Lemoore's and the general area's past and is open to the public by appointment and on special holidays. The turn-of-the century display of artifacts is the only museum in Lemoore.

Fernald said that past fund-raisers have allowed the museum's porch to be repaired and the new spindles and finials should be up soon.

Future improvement and the creation of storage areas are needed.

Continued additions to the archives has resulted in the need for more office and research space in the gallery. The carriage house also needs to be restored.

The museum raises money through the sale of bricks that add width and color to the walks and allows people to add their name to Lemoore's history.

But the need is greater than this fund-raiser can accomplish. That is why the museum has the annual barbecue.

This year's barbecue features a complete chicken dinner prepared by the barbecuing husband and wife team of Kathy and Joe Neves. Entertainment will be provided by Robert Paul of "The Gem Saloon."
