Vanderham home provides welcoming atmosphere

For The Sentinel

The home of Jane and Corry Vanderham at 1790 Muscat is a visual delight. The lovely 4,500-square-foot home located in Vintage Estates features three bedrooms, formal sitting and dining rooms, a beautifully proportioned family room, casual dining area and a spacious gourmet kitchen.

The couple purchased the home in 2005 when they moved to Hanford to join their four children and 13 grandchildren who live in the area.

The beautiful glass entry door opens to the foyer, which is flanked by the more formal rooms - a sitting room and a dining room complete with a huge round table and a wall of custom cabinetry which displays several of Mrs. Vanderham's collections.

The kitchen was completely remodeled, sparing only the original flagstone flooring. The ogee-edged granite counters, interesting coved ceiling detail, abundant storage and cheerful view make the kitchen a pleasure to work in. A cozy television room off of the kitchen is where the Vanderhams spend the majority of their time.

Mrs. Vanderham has enjoyed incorporating her numerous collectibles and family heirlooms into her new home. In fact, a bit of the home they left behind in Ontario was included in the hallway skylight. A favorite stained glass window was removed from her previous kitchen before that home was leveled to make way for a new subdivision.

The wealth of family heirlooms and photos are indicative of the importance of family. They include needlepoint portraits done by an aunt and a pastoral Dutch painting (a wedding gift to Mr. Vanderham's mother) which hang in the hallway along with family photos.

The expansive master suite includes a double-sided fireplace with travertine mantels in both the bedroom and bath. Here again, marvelous views bring the outdoors in. The luxurious bathroom was completely remodeled in subtle shades and natural elements to provide a soothing retreat. It includes a large walk-in shower for him, a lovely vanity area and jetted tub for her.

The Vanderham home is truly elegant, but at the same time exudes warmth. The rich color palette of red and gold entices guests to come inside and gather around in the welcoming atmosphere.

" This sounds like an advertisement more than it does anything to take seriously. No, homebuilders, you do not fool us with your poorly built homes, loose construction methods, and cracking foundations. "
