Bloggers get-together!

Hi everyone, it seems that Scott Tucker will be spending time in Hanford around the beginning of February. I'd love to schedule a get-together of our local bloggers so we can share opinions in person!

Alan G. and I met recently at Art Works; it was great to meet face to face. I thought he'd be a rumpled 60-year-old in a bad suit, and he thought I'd be an older, bigger, blonde tea-drinker. Needless to say, we both were pleasantly surprised!

Come on, folks, Alejandro, Magenta, I Nominate et al; let's get together and chat -- face to face. I'm thinking Art Works for coffee/tea/hot chocolate/soda. Let me know what might work for you all!

" I'll have to wear my superhero outfit to protect my identity. I hope it still fits after all the holiday feasts and snacking... "

Alan G. wrote on Jan 4, 2008 10:41 AM:

" I really enjoyed meeting with you Jackie and look forward to doing it again sometime. I hope I can make one of these get-together's in the future and put some more names to faces. I've kind of already made up faces for most of you in my head. It would be fun to see how close or far off I am. I was way off on Jackie. ;0) "

I Nominate wrote on Jan 4, 2008 12:08 PM:

" Some of us meet at 7:30am every morning at Artworks. Mon -Friday "

Jackie K. wrote on Jan 4, 2008 12:12 PM:

" Can I/we join you one day next week? "

ALEJANDRO wrote on Jan 4, 2008 3:18 PM:

" Hey, Jackie, I'm not sure how this coffee klatch would actually work. We could have a contest: no names to be written on those stick-on name tags. We could guess each other's identity, with Jackie being the moderator. A few well-chosen political, religious, and local area topics ought to do it. And when finally all is revealed, we only go by out online identity for security purposes. But we should have a weapons check and pat down first, 'cause someone might be carrying a Glock or some such nonsense. Any thoughts on how to pull this one off to the satisfaction of the majority? "

LifeLongCitizen wrote on Jan 4, 2008 4:48 PM:

" Sound's like fun! I would like to see Scott again. It's been many years and I only remember him as a kid growing up in my neighborhood on Magnolia Steet. He came from a nice family. "

question? wrote on Jan 5, 2008 5:37 PM:

" Is Artworks open on the weekends? That would be the best time for me since I work during the week. "

I Nominate wrote on Jan 5, 2008 10:06 PM:

" Yes Jackie K. you are invited...It is just like the blog opinions but the debates are in person.

Alejandro, I am sure you will be fine and please leave the arsenal at home. I think you would bring a lot(opinion only) to the table.

I nominate asking the Art works Dude since its his place.

Devil's Advocate you can come dressed as Clark Kent. That will save you from wearing tights and a cape.

"

Scott Tucker wrote on Jan 8, 2008 5:22 AM:

" Hey LifeLongCitizen: I don't know who you are, but it would be nice to catch up with a familiar face. I remember the years I lived on Magnolia Street with great fondness. As you know, there were a bunch of us kids all around the same age. We used to play in the open field where Washington School now stands and get into all sorts of trouble! Thanks for bringing back the memories. "

ALEJANDRO wrote on Jan 8, 2008 8:51 PM:

" Dear 'I Nominate'
Just a point of truth here:

Another favorite blogger here said online that they owned a Glock. I do not.

Concerning me, always remember this:

Alejandro is a lover, not a fighter!

Sandra G. wrote on Jan 9, 2008 7:45 PM:

" I 'll have to pass...since a "personal attack" was posted that I am 'psycho', I don't have the patience for people of such ignorance. "

Amanda R wrote on Jan 10, 2008 9:41 AM:

" this sounds like an interesting idea. too bad im not a veteran blogger. "

question? wrote on Jan 10, 2008 12:11 PM:

" Can anyone attend, or just your "regular bloggers"? "

Jackie K. wrote on Jan 10, 2008 12:32 PM:

" Yes, anyone can attend, absolutely! The more input the merrier! I'm still working on a day and time, so stay tuned. I know several of our bloggers live out of town -- or even out of the country -- so the invitation extends to everyone within easy driving distance of Art Works! "

ALEJANDRO wrote on Jan 10, 2008 2:25 PM:

" Yeah, I'll probably pass as I really don't 'feel the love' anymore. Besides, that should encourage others to attend. Jackie is doing a splendid job however! "

Alan G. wrote on Jan 10, 2008 4:57 PM:

" Heck Alejandro, I think you'd be the big draw. You wouldn't deny your fellow bloggers of your presence, would you? We could even do a charitable fund raiser and charge $1 for a photo with Alejandro. WAIT! Here's a better idea, we could charge $5 per pitch to DUNK Alejandro. I know Steve has enough room on his back patio. I tease because I love. ;0) "

Alan G. wrote on Jan 10, 2008 5:03 PM:

" Jackie, you flatter me with your "pleasantly surprised" observation. I'm going to get really modest here and say that I'm just a man, like any other man......................................................................... IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! "

ALEJANDRO wrote on Jan 11, 2008 4:13 PM:

" Oh, can see that bloggers' get-together now . . . After an audience warmup by that popular former Hanford resident, historian, comedian, and Second Amendment proponent Alan G., Jackie K. presents her extra-special favorite guest, live, direct from Switzerland, former Hanford native and First Rights advocate, (fanfare tah da): lets all hear it for Scott Tuckerrrrrrrrr! Patriotic ad-libs followed by robust political exposition and rejoinders all around. That's assuming the Screenwriters strike is still on, of course. I wonder just how many will turn out for the Sentinel's free food buffet? At least they might be actual paying local subscribers, though . . .
"

question... wrote on Jan 13, 2008 3:15 PM:

" Is there a date set for this get-together yet?
"

Will their thesis hold up in public? That's O.K. it will not be a matter of record...or will it? wrote on Jan 15, 2008 10:27 AM:

" The meeting of blogging minds, I think it will fun because no one will guess that I have reveled with the ability to toy with each of their ideas and express different degrees of disregard for their points with implied asperity. Cynical contempt and tart questions and attitude with certain topics made bloggers nervous and angry, some laughed in their seats and replied with words of confidence. I hope it is a profoundly esoteric coffee and tea mixer. "

Amanda R wrote on Jan 17, 2008 8:54 PM:

" if this happens i will definitely be there. "

Devil's Advocate wrote on Jan 18, 2008 9:00 PM:

" We are serious windbags (er...except that we're typing. Whatever, you know what I mean). I actually found myself growing tired of reading multi-part entries today (400+ words each). Been guilty of this myself, and though I had my suspicions, I began wondering who the reigning Sentinel Blogger Windbag is.

So I took a snapshot.

Today at 3pm, I copied all the comments from the ten most commented blogs. Then I filtered out Sentinel generated time stamps. Clicked the Word Count tool, and viola! Here are our top twelve & their word counts: (Drumroll please.)

JP Prichard 655 words, MV 660, ALEJANDRO 695, Magenta 695 (must be twins…), Jay 719, Mad as a Hatta in Nevada 723, Amanda R. 759, Amy 1114, Scott Tucker 1163, The Oracle 1194, Sid 3060,

And the winner is: Jeff with 5016 words! More than 2nd & 3rd combined!

Two things we've learned here today: 1) If it were possible to talk someone to death, we'd be like Stalin. and 2) Devil's Advocate clearly needs a hobby. God bless, & talk to you soon! "

Cheeze whiz D.A.... wrote on Jan 19, 2008 10:50 PM:

" you do have time on your hand. That is quite a bit of capturing of the voices in type form...I mean what would you call it? Click....smile ; ). Very informative and well thought out to bring to the table at the get-together, it'll be a hoot! "

Not so mad in Nevada at the moment wrote on Jan 21, 2008 12:13 PM:

" Dang- Devil's Advacate! Can imagine just how much higher that word count would be if we weren't limited? Or if we were actually talking face to face. Too bad I don't live closer....Maybe as a hobby you could take up scrapbooking? You'd be a great journeler. lol "

to Devil's Advocate wrote on Jan 21, 2008 6:56 PM:

" I see a problem with your little "project", and with blogs in general. You never really know if anyone who posts under the same name is the same person. Who knows? people could be using your name, or other so called "regular" names and posting. There is no verifyable way to tell. BTW, I've been on the Sentinel blogs for a while now, but you would never know it. "

Amanda R wrote on Jan 21, 2008 8:58 PM:

" yes...i made it on the top windbag list. is this an accomplishment? hmmm. i think ill shut up now "

jeff wrote on Jan 22, 2008 1:58 PM:

" Way to go me! Darn now you have to add 12 more. "

Alan G. wrote on Jan 24, 2008 2:54 PM:

" I'll have to step it up a bit. Darn deadlines are keeping me way too busy these days. "

Blue Falcon wrote on Jan 25, 2008 2:17 AM:

" Stop it, Stop it, Stop it... I think I'm going to cry, Your all getting a bit too mushy for me! "

ATTN JACKIE K. wrote on Jan 25, 2008 9:18 AM:

" The post about needing to "get more" from Jan 24, 2008 7:47 PM, using my moniker, was not me. It seems very inappropriate for the forum. Thanks, Devil's Advocate. "

Not so mad in Nevada at the moment wrote on Jan 25, 2008 9:45 AM:

" Devil's Advocate- why are you sorry? Most of us thought it was fun. "

mlt0522 wrote on Jan 26, 2008 8:40 PM:

" Are there evening blogging events? I'm such a blogger you know. "

Scott Tucker wrote on Jan 27, 2008 10:08 AM:

" Scott Tucker is grading papers, working on lesson plans, snowboarding on the weekends, taking care of last minute errands for his upcoming trip to CA, and looking forward to two weeks of vacation. Thanks for your interest anonymous question-mark person. "

imposter wrote on Jan 28, 2008 3:42 PM:

" Yes, it's me, the fake "Devil's Advocate". Apparently there is a system to check postings, at least for "regulars"...seeing as how some of my "imposter" comments never seem to show up. Just trying to make a point about the accuracy and verifyability (is that a word?), or lack there of on message boards. "
