Former ’Pup still perfect for Arizona
By Sentinel Sports Staff
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Former Hanford High star David Coulon hiked his record to 4-0 for top-ranked Arizona on Saturday, picking up the victory in the Wildcats 6-2 victory over Cal State Fullerton.
Coulon went 5 1/3 innings, giving up three hits and two runs -- one earned.
The senior left-hander struck out four and walked two, gaining the win with relief help from Mike Colla and Daniel Schlereth. The win was Arizona’s 12th straight, but the Cal State Fullerton ended the streak with a 10-7 victory Sunday.
Coulon has pitched in four games, compiling a 2.27 earned run average. He’s struck out 31 in 23 2/3 innings while allowing 16 hits and six walks.
Earlier last week, Coulon was named the national Proline Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week.
The honors stemmed from his performance in a tournament game at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, in which he tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts and tossed a one-hitter over eight innings of a 3-0 win.
