Gilmore, Florez to appear at Hanford NAACP event

Kings County residents will have an early opportunity next month to learn about the two candidates competing for the seat in California State Assembly's 30th District, which includes Kings County. Republican Danny Gilmore, a retired California High Patrol officer from Hanford, and his Democratic contender Fran Florez, a mayor pro tem of Bakersfield, are scheduled to speak in Hanford on May 19.

At the invitation of the Hanford NAACP, they are promoting their platforms to members of local civil rights group.

The NAACP general assembly will be held at the Mustard Seed Church, 500 E. Florinda St., Hanford, starting 7 p.m. The meeting is open to the general public.

The two candidates -- who have no opposition in the June primary -- will battle to fill the South Valley seat currently held by Democrat Nicole Parra, who will term out at the end of the year. The election is in November.

This race is Gilmore's second attempt to win the seat. Florez, the mother of state Sen. Dean Florez, D-Shafter, hopes to win the seat which has traditionally gone to a Democratic candidate.

The reporter can be reached at 583-2429.

" What is it going to take to see Danny win this time? I totally agree with you, you will not find a mor e sincere man than Danny. To the rest of the voters out there-he has been this way for the 20 years I have known him-he does not change like the wind like some other law enforcement politicians. "

DaTruth wrote on May 7, 2008 3:15 AM:

" Danny Gilmore is a great person, who has high morals and unbeatable ethics... he should have beat Parra in a run away victory. We always blame the politicians, but we the people elect them. Those who voted for Parra over Gilmore last time around were either self serving from Parra's handouts, or completely blinded as to what a politician should be. Lets not make the same mistake twice and vote Danny Gilmore into office. "

Watchdog wrote on May 7, 2008 5:45 PM:

" The Dog Says - Gilmore needs to go after the Latino vote, it's what cost him last time. You can bet Dean Florez will be around pounding the drum for dear ol' mom, so we have to pound a bigger one for Gary Gilrmore that's all. Parra served herself and those responsible for getting her elected and that is it. The rest of us went without representation for her entire time in office. We shouldn't forget that folks, Florez will do the same, come one come all let's put Gilmore in the Senate and send the Mayor back to Bakersfield. It's time Central California was truly represented by a true Central California guy who knows the law and how to enforce it.
GILMORE, GILMORE, GILMORE YOU WANT MORE, YOU GET MORE, WITH GILMORE. The laws are on the books we just need someone to enforce the enforcers and Gilmore is capable of doing so with his leadership and experience protecting the State and it's citizens for more than 20 Years. No it's not Mary or even Larry it's Garry you get more with Gilmore serving the valley since "

KC Chic wrote on May 9, 2008 5:17 PM:

" Yes Watchdog...vote for Garry Gilmore! "

Danny can win... wrote on May 10, 2008 8:13 AM:

" Danny can win if he takes all of Kern County this time. That's where Nicole had him beat last time. He won in Kings County and has a good chance of doing it again! Kern may be a small section of the 30th District, but it is strong (and a Florez stronghold). If you know someone from the area, or if you want to campaign in the Northern Kern (Shafter, Delano) areas, help Danny out! Call his office and volunteer. He's gonna need help from YOU IF YOU REALLY WANT HIM IN OFFICE. He's the best candidate for all for the 30th. Let's give him the opportunity to show it and start getting involved. Best of luck Danny! I have a friend who wants to marry her dog. After all, they already sleep together, and now that the California Supreme Court has paved the way for same-sex couples to marry, it’s only a matter of time before people start marrying animals, or even inanimate objects, right? (I actually think I’m in love with my [...]
