Knife taken from student at Hamilton

Teachers at Hamilton School got a brief scare on Thursday morning when a 9-year-old student was found with a knife on campus. Hanford police officers were called to the school just before 9:30 a.m. when campus aids discovered the student with a steak knife in one of the bathrooms. The identity of the student was not revealed due to his status as a minor.

The student said he brought the knife to school with the intent of injuring another person, according to a police report.

No official action was taken by law enforcement officials, who handed the matter over to the school for disciplinary action.

"We took appropriate disciplinary measures and the student is no longer on our campus, or any other in the district," said Principal Javier Espindola. "No one was hurt and we handled things right away. We always take extra caution on campus for the safety of our students."
