Police seek 3 in home invasion

Hanford Police investigators are searching for three men who broke into the south Hanford residence of a 74-year-old local man, struck him, threatened him and then robbed him on Tuesday morning. Three men described only as Hispanic males between 18 and 22 years of age broke into an Amberwood II apartment near 11th Avenue and Thompson Drive at 2 a.m. while the victim, Ezequil Luque, was entertaining company. The guests fled the scene as the men entered, while Luque was struck and forced onto the bed.

The suspects stole a wallet with a small amount of money in it and the victim's keys before leaving. Luque was told to lay on the floor and count to 100 as they fled. It is unknown where the suspects went as they left the complex. Luque's vehicle was not stolen following their departure.

"We are currently working on some leads right now," Hanford Police Investigator Bryan Toppan said. "Hopefully, we'll be able to identify these suspects soon."

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Investigator Toppan at 585-2540.

The reporter can be reached at 583-2425.

" Here are my first nominees for "Kings County's Dumbest Criminals." Robbing an apartment dweller in South Hanford will net about $3.12. When they go back to their hideout and divide all that change, it comes to $1.04 each. That's not even a cup of coffee!! COME ON GUYS!! THINK BIG! Steal some paintings from museums by famous artists like Renoir, Munch and Klimt. Invest in some cool black body suits and small mirrors to redirect laser beams. Buy a portable cable system to drop in from the roof and don't forget a long tube to stash the canvas in after you've cut it from the frame with a razor blade. Buy razor blades too! Of course, you'll probably need some Ducati's for a quick getaway or perhaps a speed boat if you're close to a waterway. I'm just sayin'... "

" Alan G. - That comment about the south Hanford Apartment Dweller was uncalled for. That was rude! "

Alan G. wrote on May 9, 2008 11:23 AM:

" Yeah, you're right Citizen. Could've been written differently to elicit the same point that criminals are stupid. My apologies to South Hanford apartment dwellers ;0) "

" Sounds Good Alan G. Thanks! "

" Alan G.

Crime's not funny, period. What if it was you who was robbed? Would you still be joking? "

Amanda R wrote on May 14, 2008 5:37 PM:

" Some people should learn the difference between a joke, which contains a punch line, and sarcasm, which Alan G. uses quite often and exhibits here. "

Alan G. wrote on May 15, 2008 1:14 PM:

" Thanks for recognizing that, Amanda R. Some people are just way too sensitive and miss the point that I'm making. "

" According to the article, the suspects were described only as "Hispanic males". Let's get that border closed already. "

Amanda R wrote on May 15, 2008 7:27 PM:

" To "Im see a pattern": worry about immigration when there is an article stating that it was an illegal immigrant. What race are you? I have a whole side of my family that could be described as "Hispanic" but I wouldn't suggest closing the border, they were born and raised here, as were their parents. Learn the English language a little better then tell us how to control our borders. "

Trying to believe the music

As Friday’s 232nd anniversary of this humble experiment in democracy called the United States of America approaches, I keep hoping I can believe the music that I’ll be hearing as I partake in various celebrations before ensuring freedom of the press continues by working on your Saturday Sentinel.
