Christensen enters plea, faces probation, fine

(3:45 p.m. Tuesday)

Former Hanford city manager Alan Christensen was sentenced to up to a year of probation and a fine after pleading no contest today to a misdemeanor attempted grand theft charge stemming from his short-lived tenure in Hanford.

Christensen, 46, was accused of falsifying a request for payment from Hanford for $1,000 in December 2006. He was facing two misdemeanor counts -- falsifying documents requesting money and taking the money.

The case went to trial this March but resulted in a hung jury. He was scheduled for retrial in mid-June.

It remains unclear how today's plea would impact Christensen's employment as Arvin's top city administrator.
