Don't disrespect us

Editor: My son and I attended this years Fresno's Pride Parade and my partner and I are getting prepared to head to San Francisco for theirs. Now Mr. Kleinhammer, the Fresno parade was lovely, my son enjoyed the Native American dancing, the water guns being sprayed at us, the candy being passed out and more importantly he loved to see that there are other kids with two moms and two dads.

Now I believe that I may be more open-minded than you, because I don't mind seeing a transsexual or drag queen walk down the street, I am proud to walk next to them. Honestly when you are at the parade and party with everyone, there is a higher sense of self. I love going to the San Francisco parade just for the sake of feeling that personal "high" from feeling accepted.

San Francisco holds a much larger parade and as the LGBTQ capital, I would expect every aspect of the LGBTQ community to be showing their pride. Not only does our pride parades give us the chance to raise money for organizations it gives us a chance to come together as a community, just as people come together at homecoming parades and Christmas parades.

Going back to the Constitution and the right to assembly and the right of free speech, I find that we are not wrong in holding our parades. They are not in bad taste ... it is the taste of acceptance, of pride and of life. Don't dampen our celebration with your narrow-mindedness ... we don't disrespect you, return the favor. It's the golden rule.

" A higher sense of self? That sounds very selfish to me. By selfish I mean forcing the homosexual antics on general society. Heterosexuals usually don't flaunt their lifestyle by dressing in drag and obnoxiously parading down the street with others of the same ilk. So raising money for other organizations validates your antics? Even that good deed does not give you moral right to prance down the street. Sure you have the constitutional right to parade around and look stupid but you don't have the constitutional right to be accepted by all. I guess you can call me narrow-minded, but I will not validate the homosexual lifestyle. "

" Melissa, leave it to you to increase our knowledge of your wonderful but misunderstood ‘community.' I didn't know what ‘stone' meant until you showed me the rich diversity of the word.

I had to look up "LGBTQ" though in Wikipedia and found this bit of info:

"Although identical in meaning, LGBT may have more feminist and q u e e r connotations than "GLBT." When not inclusive of transgender people it is sometimes shortened to LGB. It may also include additional Qs for q u e e r and/or questioning (sometimes abbreviated with a question mark) (LGBTQ, LGBTQQ, GLBTQ?). Other variants may add a U for "unsure", an I for intersex, another T for transsexual, another T (or TS or the numeral 2) for two-spirited people, an A or SA for allies, or an A for asexual. Some may also add a P for pansexual or polyamorous, and an O for omnisexual or other."

But this really covers all of the deviant bases: "FABGLITTER", an inclusive acronym for "Fetish, Allies, Bisexuals, Gay, Lesbians, Intersexed, Transgender, Transsexual Engendering Revolution." No interspecies rights as yet.

Yep, we have much to learn about this hidden ‘community.' "

" Okay, since as far back in my childhood that I can remember, I have felt that homosexuality was wrong/immoral/unnatural. As I have grown up, I have had many gay and lesbian friends. I have also ended those friendships because of the anger, rudeness and utter unhappiness of these people. And EACH of them expressed to me that their sexuality was their choice (it is becoming a fashion statement). I have been tolerant all of my life, meaning I have put up with or tolerated those who chose the lifestyle, not the new meaning of tolerance which is accept the unacceptable or be ridiculed and labeled a bigot. So please, do not try to educate me or my family. I have heard all I need to hear. If you are a nice person, I will be nice to you, but please keep your sexuality where it belongs, at home. And I am all for a straight pride parade. "

Being that I am forced to live in a stright ruled world....I find it rather insulting that I cannot have a few blocks once a year to celebrate life with my felllow homos. and others. Because in fact we have many straight supporters who do attend our parades. Now I didn't say that donating to organizations excuse us...because we need no excuse. We are Americans living our liberties.I was talking about giving donations because we are a part of society like it or not. We do follow street laws...in fact we have the police at every parade ensuring that and our safety.
Yes the golden is a wonderful thing...it like respect isn't a one way street....I am not flaunting my sex life out in public...I am holding hands with my girlfriend. Now where your mind takes that...is a whole different story. As for what we wear...no one has room to judge....teen age girls are holding car washes in bikinis, shorts are so short you can see their cheeks! Put more clothes on your kids before you talk about what we wear! "

No offense taken, ‘Mel,' but I am not a pig so I really don't know how I would feel after eating a whole bucket of ice cream. What does it feel like anyway? I love pistachio.

The "hetero lifestyle" is the normal average everyday way most people live in this world.
It is what it is.

Your lifestyle of choice is what it is: not normal, not average, not the lifestyle of the majority.

What you do in your bedroom is your business, I agree 100%.

But now you all are bringing it to public issue, straight out of your bedroom, into our faces.

We are dealing with it as best we can, but you cannot "force feed" us into thinking that the gay lifestyle is good and normal and something we all can be proud of.

That will take some time, Mel. "

I find many homosexuals - especially outspoken ones ane the public activists - are angry and act out because of it. The are continually ‘in your face' and of course it is their right to do so.

Using a hypothetical example:

You will never have a baby unless a man donates sperm. Doesn't that make you angry at all?

Don't you want to know the feminine joy of the birth experience, or does being a lesbian erase that biological imperative too?

Try as you may, your female life partner will never produce sperm, so someone - a man - either donates or sells his seed. And a adopted child will have a father too, somewhere, somehow.

That child deserves to have a choice too, Mel.

Who asks that child if they want a father and a mother? Not just two mommies or one femme and one butch parent. Who asks that child if they want to observe sex between two women all the time and consider that normal?

So who gets to choose their life becomes moot when the biological abnormal becomes ‘law.' "

I guess you would still believe that through prayer and religious counseling you can "cure" yourself of this. Kind of like Reverend Ted Haggard. What a crock. He is still gay. Doesn't want to admit it, but not changed. And repression doesn't cure...it just causes more problems.

I would welcome a "Straight Pride Parade." Britney Spears can be the grand marshall. Maybe have a special section for all the divorcees in our 50% and climbing attrition for marriages.

Maybe a special section for the "straight" folks with someone (of the same sex) on the side.

Yeah...I would watch that. "

My son is an understanding boy who knows that families are all very different, some have one mom, one dad, a grandparent, a mom and dad, a dad and step mom, two moms, or two dads...and although we do not emphasize the 'right' family unit we make sure he knows that it doesn't matter what the family make up is.. what matters is that the children are loved and well taken care of and the grow to be successful at what ever they choose to do. What I shove down my sons throat is not a lifestyle...they are qualities he needs to posses to successful in life. Don't ever assume about my son. "

The heterosexual lifestyle is here because YOU wouldn't be here if it wasn't. I know somewhere you said that your pregnancy was artificially inseminated, and that's fine I'm okay with that. However, for the most part, for thousands and thousands of years (last say the last 50 excluded) heterosexual behavior creates human existance. It's not force fed, it's just how it is. It's "natural" in a loose sense of the word. If you choose to be "unnatural" in your ways, that's fine.

I don't think college taught you proper English grammar. You've earned a GRADUATE degree, conducted RESEARCH, and apparently never learned how to properly structure a sentence. This too is fine but it makes your "I'm so open, I'm so educated" statement make me feel funny inside.

I knew you as a kid and you were mean and always wanted attention. Chill out, enjoy life however you choose to live it, and quit complaining about the hetero way. "

Is this somehow different from someone in an accident being placed on a breathing machine and a feeding tube when their body no longer performs these functions? Having a machine to do your breathing and a machine to insert food into your stomach is not natural in a strict or loose sense of the word. You then say “I knew you as a kid and you were mean and always wanted attention” is it possible that you are just bitter? I am also fairly confident you and everyone else here - who keeps bringing it up - completely misunderstood Melissa when she said she felt “Force-fed the heterosexual lifestyle”. "

There's a section of the videotaped Fresno Pride Parades for the past few years. More important, there is an educational documentary narrated by a Visalia college instructor that is pretty well done; it defines ALL TYPES of sexual and gender preferences and permutations and has actual examples.

Unfortunately all these examples show rather strange looking and sounding overweight individuals and one exmilitary tranny who ‘got the operation' ala Christine Jorgensen and Renée Richards. This is how those not so much into ‘diversity' develop a very real sense of ‘gaydar.'

You can make you own judgement on this lifestyle and ‘community' and see if it disgusts or thrills you. And remember, this is America where you still have the right to personally believe what is right and wrong. "

" If this Gay Parade festivity is so pure and all doing all sharing then why pray tell is it started off as a riot in New York City?

Early on the morning of 29 June 1969, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning persons rioted following a police raid on the Stonewall Inn—a gay bar that was heavily patronized by people of colour, including a high percentage of drag queens — in the Greenwich Village section of New York City.[1] The Stonewall riots are generally considered to be the beginning of the modern gay rights movement, as it was the first time in modern history that a significant body of LGBT people resisted arrest. Given the population that frequented the establishment, a large percentage of the people who initially fought back were persons of colour.

Whatever happened to violence begets violence? It is alright to honor this geesh the people in Watts are missing out they should have several parades every year celebrating the many riots of the 60's and 70's. I meant "unnatural" to refer to her sexuality and not the way she had her child. They use the word "abnormal" in psychology in a similar way to describe mental problems that are uncommon (not the average) and it's not meant to have a positive or negative connotation. I should have been more careful with my word choice because I didn't mean unnatural in a bad sense of the word, and I meant it to refer to her sexuality .

I am not judging her on her how she had her child, and I don't care if she's gay or not as far as raising her child goes because the only important thing is that she loves him, which you can tell she does.

I think it's good to stand up for what you believe in and even if I think her lifestyle is wrong, she has a right to live it and be proud of it. I'm just kinda annoyed about hearing about it over and over. Saying she was forced fed heterosexuality was also kinda what aggravated me, because that's what a lot of people feel that she is doing to them by putting her choices in their face. I think heterosexual people and homosexual people should each respect each other and not force anything on each other.

I probably shouldn't have made my aggravations such a personal attack. I'm just annoyed with it all. "

The last time public health officials worried about syphilis outbreaks among gay men was in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when bathhouses were in their prime. Syphilis rates hit a decade-long peak during the unfolding tragedy of the then-mysterious AIDS epidemic in 1983. At the time, a French-Canadian flight attendant named Gaetan Dugas was a loyal bathhouse customer. According to Randy Shilts, the reporter who wrote the history of the early AIDS epidemic, And the Band Played On, Dugas was blond, handsome, and ravenous for partners. His job took him to cities throughout North America, where, by his own claim, he had sex with 250 men a year for at least three years. Later, when he became one of the first men diagnosed with the "gay cancer" of Kaposi's sarcoma, William Darrow, a disease control specialist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, managed to link Dugas to 40 of the first 248 AIDS cases diagnosed in this country in 10 different cities. And, it is totally obvious that gays do not want acceptance, they want to 'change' people and their opinions to justify their own behavior. As I have stated before, I have never met a happy gay person. Even now that coming out of the closet and running around throwing it into everyones faces is all the rage, all the gays I know are still miserable humans. So, giving my opinion based on my own personal observations certainly does not qualify me as an ignorant hater, but a well informed person unwilling to accept the hype and excuses for the behavior and lifestyle choices of gays. Seriously, the only people who need to accept this lifestyle choice is those who choose it, but they feel the need to be validated, which is both annoying and pathetic! "

Where have I ever told anyone to shut up? I do not interpret the Bible; I take what it says literally. What does Dr. Phil have to do with anything I have said or this conversation? What web sites have I referred you to on this thread? I have never referred anyone to a web site that requires email validation, please stop lying and just admit you are unwilling to view information that shows how wrong you are. I have never made any claim of being in the military, you are again confusing information, which is your Achilles heel. If you have been encouraged to research data to make informed decisions why do you refuse to read anything that disagrees with you? That is called being closed minded. "

" Fred, As far as admitting mistakes or not I would be more than happy to do so except you never cite examples of when I’ve been wrong you just keep saying over and over again that I am. That is not proof of anything. If you were not aware you do not win arguments on message boards by simply typing more words than the other guy. You need to provide factual, supported data. Typing away your thoughts and feelings proves nothing. You mentioned that my Bible quotes are poorly written, this is a false statement as I’ve pointed out, I am not sure you’ve ever read the Bible if you really believe that. I felt it would expedient to point out –since you attempted to say I do not write well – that you’re last six posts include no less than 12 spelling errors and 14 grammatical errors. "

" Jeff - KJV you may alter them anyway you choose to read whatever you want to in them just like you claimed I could do with Wikepedia, sounds like you have, I didn't know they could be altered. Pastes that is. "

" Hey Watchdog,

Do you notice that when you make your point here successfully some far left posters just cannot cope and resort to pointing out spelling and grammar errors we all can make?

Just like Ritalin® helps with hyperactive kids, we should give rabid progressives a drug to calm them down.

A medicine for hyperactive liberals . . . calm them down . . .

Wait there is already one on the market; an old one at that, called

LIBRIUM®.

Now if we can just get Rebecca (retired pharmacist) to fill the prescription and do some patient teaching... "

This is very hard to understand but I think the point Fred is trying to make is he thinks I alter what the Bible says online? I am unclear what gives Fred this idea. Let me make this perfectly clear to you Fred. When I paste lines of scripture here I copy them from a web site called biblegateway.com. This site cannot be altered or edited by users. The site is operated by a company called “Gospel Communications”. It is not some Atheist web site that re writes the Bible to suit their needs. I then paste them directly onto the Sentinel’s site. The scripture I offer in my posts are not altered in any way. The fact that you think they are leads me to believe you have never read the Bible or you would know this. "

" Hey Alejandro - have you noticed how Jeff just ignores the meat of the argument. I have shut him down at every crossing today right down to providing him with the .gov cites he wanted and he ignores it all to point out my grammar and spelling mistakes, and now all of a sudden can't understand my statements. That's how wars are won by the other guy not understanding what you are doing. He didn't even get the response I sent him about his bible posts when he questioned the accuracy and accused me of changing pastes from Wikepedia. You can't change a paste from either cite.
The liberals evidently don't like it when we resort to their tactics. By the way, have you heard the latest from democrat Joe Lieberman, he had confirmed by the white house today. He thinks that there will be another attack on our borders to test the new president, how many times have you heard me say that on here? The loyal Democrat stated he wants the only candidate qualified for Commander and Chief John McCain in office when that attack comes. "

I didn't see a hide or hair of the parade...see there are ways to keep your snotty noses away from our events. But I have to tell you that I went to the True Colors Tour and it was great!!!! Cindi Lauper was awesome! the b 52s hot! well the message was LGBTQs are not aliens...we are sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, grandchild, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors. And we deserve all the rights and liberties as all the other sons and daughters, mothers and fathers..... "

" Fred,
“Hey Alejandro - have you noticed how Jeff just ignores the meat of the argument. I have shut him down at every crossing today right down to providing him with the .gov cites he wanted” What .gov sites? I see none in this thread.
“and now all of a sudden can't understand my statements.” That is because you don’t write with proper English. You need to learn how to use commas and periods. Maybe take an ESL class.

“He didn't even get the response I sent him about his bible posts when he questioned the accuracy and accused me of changing pastes from Wikepedia. You can't change a paste from either cite.” What post are you referring to? I don’t see one here that reflects what you are saying and I never accused you of anything. Can you please site an example where I accused you of editing Wikipedia entries?

Joe Lieberman is not a loyal Democrat, if he was he would not have ran as an Independent. "

" Fred,

When are you going to answer questions that I actually ask you?

1. Where have I ever told anyone to shut up?
2. What does Dr. Phil have to do with anything I have said or this conversation?
3. What web sites have I referred you to on this thread – Or any other - that requires an email?
4. If you have been encouraged to research data to make informed decisions why do you refuse to read anything that disagrees with you?

There are also many unanswered questions by you on many other boards here. Can you answer any of those questions? "

" BJ...sorry....my keyboard sticks on the space bar. I was responding to certain people, really had nothing much to say to anyone else but that person...I'm not being rude, please don't think that.
To all the other posts to me...I'm not forcing my sexuality on anyone, but there is nothing wrong accepting one's sexuality. This society is sexually opressed and it is sad. If women would fulfill her man's desires he wouldn't cheat and vise versa. The act of making love or what ever it you may call it is beautiful and no one should ever tell you that you are wrong. God doesn't play a part in the bedroom. I am not a lesbian...my sexuality and lifestlye go hand in hand. I could not live one with out the other. The life I live most couldn't do...so no I don't force it on you. What I expect is equality. Humans shouldn't have to work for that. It is sad that we do. I wonder what the world would be like if England wasn't the super power back then, and Africa was..Just a thought "
