SF ‘Hurricane’ quickly blows away opponent

LEMOORE -- Ana Julaton really had the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino rocking on Thursday night -- but only for a little while. Julaton stopped Salina Jordan 36 seconds into four-round super bantamweight bout. The brief fight was one of seven boxing matches on the undercard of the Don Juan Futrell-Lowell Brownfield undercard.

Julaton, a Filipino-American fighter from San Francisco, had a vocal group of supporters who yelled her nickname, "Hurricane,'' as she entered the ring in a San Francisco Giants jersey.

All that took longer than the bout.

Julaton (4-0, 1 KO) rocked an overmatched Jordan mere seconds into the matchup, then sent her to the mat seconds later.

Jordan (2-5, 1 KO) got up, but Julaton caught the Denver fighter with another series of bombs that forced a stoppage. It was by far the quickest of three knockouts on the boxing card.

Bakersfield's Mike Dallas Jr., a highly touted prospect from the stable of Goosen-Tutor Promotions, didn't get one.

But Dallas (3-0) showed off his electrifying hand speed in a four-round decision victory over Detroit's Christopher Finley (0-1).

Dallas won every round on all three scorecards, but the taller Finley was far more skilled than most fighters in a pro debut. He took everything Dalllas could throw and even landed some smart counter blows of his own.

Also much tougher than expected was Terrance Smith of Joplin, Mo.

The slick-boxing Smith (5-6-3) earned a six-round draw in a cruiserweight bout with Dewey Cooper of Las Vegas. Cooper (16-1-3) needed to rally in the late rounds to gain a draw in a bout originally slated for 10 rounds.

Rico Ramos (4-0, 3 KOs) stopped Harvey Phillips (0-6) in a super bantamweight bout. Phillips didn't answer the bell for the second round after being hurt by a bod shot in the first.

--Caleb Truax (7-0) won a six-round decision over Thomas Rittenbaugh (3-2-2) in a super middleweight matchup.

--Tony Hirsch (6-1-1, 3 KOs) stopped Mustapha Johnson (5-5-1) in the second round of a middleweight bout.

A bantamweight involving Aaron Alafa of Visalia was scrapped because a pre-bout MRI revealed an abnormality in the head of his scheduled opponent -- Greg McDowell.
