Former Bullpup Landeros picks up victory for Kansas team
By Sentinel Sports Staff
WICHITA, Kan. -- Former Hanford High star Leonard Landeros pitched five-plus innings to pick up his fifth win of the season, as the Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Pensacola Pelicans 12-6 on Tuesday night. Landeros gave up three runs in the American Association game, improving his record to 5-2. He struck out three and walked three as his team improved its second-place record to 26-21.
The left-hander has appeared in nine games -- all starts -- for the independent team. He won his second straight following a rough outing on June 17.
His season earned run average is 5.10.
Landeros is seeing full-time duty as a starting pitcher for the first time in his eight-year pro career. Before this season, he had not started a game since 2005, with Class AA Midland of the Texas League.
Landeros spent seven seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization, managing a stint with Class AAA Sacramento last year, but was released late in the season.
