There'll be more AIDS, HIV
Editor: You know, everyone who has written into The Sentinel concerning the new law allowing for the "gay" folks who live together to get married has been setting the Bible or God as the reason that they believe it's wrong. God never intended for same-sex couples to live together. "Yeah," others say, "hey, what goes on behind locked doors is their business." That's true too, to each his own.
But, besides throwing the Bible or God out, no one has mentioned any other reason against the marriages. I've got one for you. How about the HIV or the AIDS epidemics that everyone was so concerned about here a few years ago.
Remember, the pictures of those skin and bones people they showed on TV that were infected with AIDS? Not a very pretty sight was it? Have they done away with AIDS, HIV, are they a thing of the past? Shouldn't we be more concerned with this rather then what the Bible says?
It seems to me that at the time that the AIDS epidemic was going full bore there was concern that more straight people were getting infected then had been anticipated. It was no longer just a problem for the gay community. (Is there such a thing, as a gay community, do they only live in one place?)
I think that we all know it is human nature for men and women to get bored with their spouse or mad at their spouse and decide to get even. In this case fool around with someone else. Ever hear of that?
Now, how do you suppose that an epidemic got started in the straight community? Remember that this disease is transmitted through sexual contact.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that with a new AIDS epidemic and no one has medical insurance and there are going to be some monstrous medical bills, who is to get stuck paying the bill? Yep, you hit it right, the public, the straight community.
So, when all is said and done and you go to the polls in November, think of some of these things. I've seen articles in this very paper concerning people who say that their children or other family member are gay.
Well, OK, you're right, they have every right to live life the way they want to. But do we, the general public, have to pick up the tab? Think about it ... and "bless you."
