Hanford National stays perfect in All-Star play

TAFT -- The Hanford National 12-year-old All Star team made quick work of the Taft squad on Thursday in a battle of unbeaten teams in District 61 North play.

Dillon Gonzalez fired a perfect game to lead the Hanford National to a 10-0 mercy-rule victory, as the game went just four innings.

Gonzalez struckout eight of the 12 batters he faced and also provided some punch at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a key double.

The win pushed Hanford National in the title game of the double-elimination tournament. Hanford National will play next on Sunday against either Taft, Hanford American or Buttonwillow.

Flo Perez was 2-for-2 with a home run and Jacob Martinez was 2-for-3.

Hanford National had 10 hits.

" Little Leage Coverage in both Lemoore and Hanford demonstrate a paucity not seen in other cities of equal or greater size. Except for the City Series picture. I have not seen coverage of any substance in either city. Turlock, Los Banos, Tracy, and Madera all cover their little league post season tournaments with much greater fervor than what I have seen in Hanford/Lemoore. The fact that 3 local teams are undefeated and a total of 5 local teams are still playing to represent District 61 should be reported: Undefeated Lemoore 10's playing Hanford National, Undefeasted Lemoore 11's playing Hanford National and Undefeated Hanford National 12's are all playing for District 61 championships. This, I think used to be of interest to these cities, always brings pride to the dedicated volunteer individuals and players in their leagues and generate a buzz for those cities and sponsors of those teams. The lack of coverage is a continuous issue for the less than high school aged youth sports. Little League coverage has been mostly negative over the last year. It is time for a change with such great things happening locally for youth baseball. "

" I think the current coverage is just fine. I don't think we need to over emphasize the importance of Little League. An occasional update is I need. No need to glorify the early physical development of a few 10 year olds. "

" To "LL" do you have something to hide? "

Just a thought wrote on Jul 14, 2008 10:09 AM:

" To Scarecrow:
I believe that "Play Ball" was merely making a comment about equal coverage for all teams who are having respectable All-Star campaigns. The article says nothing in reference to All-Star "picking", as Scarecrow puts it.

Furthermore, it seems you have information that we are not privileged in knowing. How are we the readers to know the on-goings of All-Star selecting? This sounds like an issue you need to take up at a board meeting and not discussed here in this forum. I, along with most readers weren’t there the day of selections, so we do not know the inner workings of the selection process. Were you? Or are you posting hear-say.

Lastly, scarecrow if you are going to bash someone, at least make sense doing it! Take an English course or do us all a favor and hit the spell/grammar check button before you post an opinion! "

LL Board Member th season wrote on Jul 15, 2008 3:10 AM:

" To those of you that have nothing but negative comments to make regarding Hanford & Lemoore Little League, I would like to say the following:

1. How dare you "try" & take away the pride & excitment that these youth have in there acomplishment just because they have had successful post season teams, that unfortunately, your child was either not nominated to participate on or you as a parent declined the nomination for he/she to participate.

2. All the youth & coaches have dedicated a lot of time & sacrifice to the post season teams including but not limited to, practice almost every day & games in 110 degree weather or traveling to Wasco & Taft when they could be swimming, Just to name a few. Any successful team comes from dedication, practice & community support.

3. There are strong, true friendships that are formed between the players, coaches & parents.

So if the above examples of a LL All-Star Team means the LL orgonization is corrupt, well, then I'm proud to be in that category. "

LL Board Member--th season wrote on Jul 15, 2008 3:31 AM:

" I would also like to thank you for your version of the truth regarding the Lemoore all star draft & any meeting held later that evening. Because you are so knowledgeable about how our board functions (even thought you did not attend that meeting) I am extending a personal invitation for you to join our next board meeting & maybe YOU can enlighten us as to what really went on that night. All Lemoore LL Board meetings are published in this very paper as far as time, date & location. Public input is always welcome.

One more thing:
Don't like how it's run, Then get involved & quit complaining!!!!!! Eveyone has an opinion, but no one wants to join & do the hard work.

WE CAN ALWAYS USE NEW BOARD MEMBERS!!! "

Everybody Missed the Point wrote on Jul 17, 2008 1:46 AM:

" Kids, Congrats on making the team and representing Hanford the way you have. Good luck in the future. It is a team effort and your team clearly demonstrates this. "

Little League Board Member wrote on Jul 17, 2008 4:33 AM:

" Scarecrow.....how would you know who was there at this "special" meeting.....were you? How do you know if I was or was not there or even who I am. As for what the LLL Prez. is doing these days, what are you referring to & how would you even know? Are you stalking him & the other board members? My gosh you write as though you are so informed you must be. You are ready and willing to expose, as you refer to them "the select few"....how about exposing who you are. If you are so informed on what went on then you must have been there & had a vote. Sounds to me like YOU are involved some how. Or maybe even an actual board member present or past who isn't man/women enough to "fess up". You have to much time on your hands! GET A LIFE!! "

" The Sentinel's sports department has a new guy at the helm, and we encourage all parents/coaches/team moms to contact him with their information. His name is Rich de Give, and his e-mail is sports@HanfordSentinel.com. "

Post board member wrote on Jul 18, 2008 12:37 AM:

" All up front? Come on...people don't get angry or defensive unless thier back is against the wall. Our valley leagues have a lot to hide...I know first hand. Many have been caught doing the wrong things and many have covered the dealings up. Anyone check the flowerbeds yet? How about the consession cup boards? Bank accounts? So nice would it be to have a cross inquiry. Everyone wants to be enlightened but really more choose to "play ball" in the dark. The kids want to play ball the parents (volunteers) keep screwing things up... "

Whats done is done wrote on Jul 18, 2008 11:03 AM:

" Well put, Post Board Member. Many people have the "what's done is done" mentality and choose to do nothing about wrongdoings. "

Hey wrote on Jul 18, 2008 3:24 PM:

" Still doesn't make it any better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

Richard De Give wrote on Jul 18, 2008 5:29 PM:

" A lot of our coverage of Little League depends on the leagues and the parents picking up the phone or zapping us an e-mail and letting us know what's going on. I'm just starting to ease into my new job, Jeremy Luchau's been doing yeoman's work while preparing for his fight, and City Editor Jon Earnest has been pitching in when he can, but it's difficult for us to be everywhere, especially out of town games. However, the hardest game to cover is one we don't know about.

As for selections, I'm more than happy to let the coaches handle that. They've been watching the players all year and know the talent best.

As Jackie noted, our e-mail address is sports@hanfordsentinel.com and you can phone us at (559) 583-2430. "

The Fearful Football Forecast: Week 6

Maybe I was having self-esteem issues when this thing started, I don’t know. Or maybe it’s a good thing I pick a heavy diet of college games, since I know that game a little better than I do the NFL. Perhaps it’s just the pure joy of a baseball postseason with out the Yankees, or [...]

Maybe it’s not the economy, stupid

Fear grips Wall Street, and we quake. At the Sentinel, we’ve been living the crisis for days.
