Hanford infant's death ruled a homicide

Last week's death of a 3-month-old Hanford infant boy is being classified as a homicide investigation, police announced in a Tuesday afternoon press conference. Cause of death was also made public Tuesday afternoon by the Kings County Coroner's Office.

Victor Gonzalez died Friday, more than two months after being airlifted to Children's Hospital suffering from severe head trauma. A June 8 child abuse case led investigators to a south Hanford residence, where the boy was found with injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.

Tuesday, Deputy Coroner Tom Edmonds announced that Gonzalez's death was a result of anoxic encephalopathy, a failure of oxygen being delivered to the brain which causes brain disfunction. The conditions had developed over the course of 2 1/2 months, and was caused by a traumatic brain injury brought about from blunt force trauma.

Investigation into the case is continuing, and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon. More details will be available in Wednesday's Sentinel.

" Good God! What the heck is going on in Kings County... three children have been killed this year in Kings County, all from abuse! Something is wrong!

First one was in Lemoore, Second one was out on NAS Lemoore, and now this one in Hanford...

I hope Kings County can afford all these murder trials! Someone correct me if I am wrong, but as long as the DA don't go after the death penalty the state won't pick up the tab... correct? "

" So what are you saying "Truth", that the baby injured himself? Whoever was in the house that day is suspect, maybe you are trying to say it was the grandparents they were in the house too.
Being a child and having a baby is not really starting a family it is more like playing house, the problem is that an innocent baby died by the hands of someone else and whoever did this to this baby needs to come clean and go to jail and for everyone that is covering up they are guilty too. Someone has to know something! "

Just another citizen wrote on Aug 21, 2008 2:20 PM:

" To: "TRUTH"
First - Learn to spell.
Second - At least try to use proper grammar, it helps the reader to stay focused on what you've written not how bad you write and spell. "I KNOW THEM VERY GOOD", what???
Lastly, like someone else has already asked, do you think the baby hurt himself? The point being, the guilty person or guilty people need to be punished, period. "

Both of them were ecstatic to have this gift from the heavens and would not do something this horrible. I just pray the truth comes out and the parents make it through these tough times because it is never pleasant losing a child. May baby Victor Gonzalez rest in peace. "

" Who ever did it has to be unhuman. I dont see how someone " So happy with plans for their family" Can go on living with that kind of guilt or even hide who ever did it. And why the hell would anyone defend something like that? I have three kids and always held them like the most precious things in the world. I always and continue to be careful with my beautiful blessings. that poor helpless baby had no choice but to depend and trust some morons he HAD to call his parents. "

" I am so sick of hearing that they were good parants, if they were so good how did the baby get hurt? Parants are resposible for their children, was so many people alone with the baby that they don't know who did it? Come on, they know but for some sick reason someone is covering this up so that they don't do jail time. This is just the sadest story everyone is worried about these young parants that they are forgeting who the victim is which is the baby. This baby was killed and the murder is being covered up because nobody is taking resposiblility for this babies life or death! "

Emama wrote on Aug 22, 2008 11:44 AM:

" As a mother of 2 babies now, I cannot understand how someone who wanted their baby and all (like some bloggers have mentioned) could let this happen to their babies. As a new mother you don't let that baby out of your sight. You even count how many ounces of mild they have drank, you count how many bowl movements they have had, in otherwards you live and breathe this new baby. With all this in mind, how does a helpless newborn get brain damage and broken ribs. Where were his parents??? Everyone in the house with this baby should be locked away. Shame. "

If the parents had nothing to do with the death of their child, then were are they now? and how come no one has come forward with any information for the police, so they (HPD) can make an arrest? "

" This tragedy is just proof that 16 year olds are not fit to be parents. Teen parents need to realize that a baby is not a toy. It's obvious that these kids weren't taught enough about abstinence and now an innocent life was taken. May baby Victor rest in peace. "

Todays youth........ wrote on Aug 23, 2008 7:21 AM:

" When did it become acceptable for illiteracy to take over our youth? Look at how these young people are spelling, it's terrible! They can't even put a sentence together correctly, typing in all caps and using one long run on sentence makes it very hard to read. I understand not everyone can be a scholar, but come on! Basic education through the 12th grade level is free in this country. Take a look around ladies and gentlemen, these kids are our future. With literary skills such as these I guess we don’t have to worry to much, they probably wont get much higher than having the ability to mess up our orders at the local McDonalds! (Here’s a little tip for you kids, type your message on a word processing program and run a spell check before you embarrass yourself!)

Oh yeah, just to stay on topic, it’s to bad about the baby and I hope who ever committed this terrible act gets what’s coming to them! "

" Don't be so quick to judge the parents, HPD did not bust their door down and find this baby. The parents called 911 themselves when they ssuspected something was wrong and other family members contacted HPD themselves also when they suspected child abuse. Why would they alert the police if they were guilty? "

Valley Girl wrote on Aug 24, 2008 8:25 AM:

" A helpless infant has been murdered and people have issues with the spelling of bloggers? How distasteful! An innocent child lived a very short and very traumatic life. I'm deeply saddend just like everyone else, but come on people! The spelling and grammar of ones blogging is completely irrelevant! "

Mad as H wrote on Aug 24, 2008 2:13 PM:

" To RIP
Are you serious? I guess you dont have children of your own!!!!! Well I do, and at 1 month old I can tell you everybody that held my child and was around mine, because that's what good parents do. PROTECT their children! or dont have them.
So I guess they just woke up one day and said "hey, baby Victor seems to be hurt, maybe we should call CPS or the POLICE" Give me a break! If a 1 MONTH BABY in my house got hurt (2 broken ribs) every one in the house would be dead. "

Bobb wrote on Aug 24, 2008 4:44 PM:

" Sorry to disagree Valley Girl. Yes it is sad that this young child did not even get a chance at life. The bigger problem is we have youth having babies who cannot even communicate properly. How will they follow prescription information or read about proper care for a child. Kids who cannot express themselves or lack communication skills will most likely pass these traits onto the next generation. I truly believe that is how our society is being dumbed down. It takes reading and writing comprehension to succeed in today's society and just survive much less raise a child. I sincerely hope whoever is responsible for the atrocity is punished to the full extent of the law. "

Todays youth........ wrote on Aug 24, 2008 8:48 PM:

" To Valley Girl,

Nonsense! The illustration between the 16 year old parents and the misspellings go hand in hand. We are trying to show that this generation can barely take care of themselves let alone be responsible enough to bring a child into this world. I don’t know the parents, but I don’t believe anyone can look me in the eyes and tell me they were ready to care for a baby when they themselves were still kids. It’s not our fault that “TRUTH” and “YAYA” decided make themselves such easy targets! I feel terrible, not for the parents but for the baby. SOMEONE shook that poor child and I have a feeling it wasn’t self inflicted! There isn’t a baby, child or adult alive that deserves to be abused.

By the way you misspelled "saddenend" :)

Oh yeah, I agree with Bobb 100%, that's what I've been trying to say! "

Valley Girl wrote on Aug 24, 2008 10:20 PM:

" Bobb, I agree that too many people in Kings Co. don't have the education to communicate in a functional way with reading and writing. The point I was trying to make is that this article is about a baby that was murdered, not how well people blog. Incorrect spelling and grammar did not kill this child, someone with no heart and no reguard for human life did. Again, I just feel it is distasteful to comment on someone's spelling after reading a story like this. "

Sickend wrote on Aug 25, 2008 11:37 AM:

" How sad that there are so many people in this world who can't afford to adopt these little helpless children. Yet there are idiots who can have them. Reguardless of who was at fault of killing this helpless baby, he is gone and the parents allowed him to be in the care of murderers if not themselves. Irresponsible! "

Valley Girl wrote on Aug 25, 2008 1:12 PM:

" To: Todays Youth,
Oh, I get it now. I had my child as a teen and I misspelled saddened (which by the way, you misspelled "saddenend" also!) so apparently I am unable to care for myself or my child. Gimmie a break! People, it's a blog! Stop being so petty. Some people don't care if they enter the wrong key. Some people choose not to proof read their post. Would their grammar and spelling be the same on a college essay? Maybe, but I doubt it. "

concerned parent wrote on Aug 25, 2008 5:48 PM:

" This is just sad to read so many people arguing about this poor childs death. I have 3 children of my own and I could not think of hurting my children like that. I had my oldest at 19 and sorry to say but I was a great mother at that age. I hope these parents didn't do it because they will be going to hell for this. I wish they get caught and go to court and I would be one of the jury selected because I would say guilty. Friends of this couple are all full of it because how can a infant get hurt by himself and die. I would not even say they were friends. "

Bobb wrote on Aug 25, 2008 8:47 PM:

" Valley Girl; The point I was trying to make is that so many youth are bringing children into this world and they cannot even cope for themselves, much less a child. Most are dropouts or in Continuing Education which will at least help them find employment upon graduation. Minimum wage jobs make it hard to raise a family. My niece got pregnant her Senior year and her an the father married a few years later, but they had a huge struggle and both had decent jobs and a good education. These are rare exceptions and usually when this happens at a young age it leads to poverty, absent fathers and the support of Social Services. This trend must be changed or we are going to have another generation of kids who will end up in the same predicament. Education is FREE in the United States but so many youth don't even care to show up and the parents very likely were the same when they were that age. "

Live and Let Live wrote on Aug 26, 2008 2:46 PM:

" I am a friend of these young parents. And yes, I can spell. People, you are not anyone to judge! Leave that job up to God. Stop playing the roll. An Angel lost his life, but you were not there. You do not know what happened. These parents were young, but wanted a great life for they're son just as much as you and I want for our own children. I had my daughter at a very young age, I am a single parent, but none of that has stopped me from becoming who I am now. I am not on welfare and have not become a burden to society. Please stop judging. The most we can do from this situation is LEARN. Do not trust anyone with your children, and if your children are having children, be a great parent and be of help to them. "

To Valley Girl wrote on Aug 26, 2008 5:06 PM:

" I was being sarcastic, that's why it was in quotations with a "happy face" behind it. Your post was no where near the level of illiteracy that was exhibited by TRUTH and YAYA. Maybe they are two bright young kids but they are writing it "text message" language and it gives the appearance of ignorance and illiteracy. I disagree with kids having kids, but your free spirit isn't my problem, unless I'm working to pay for your kid(s) too.

As for their grammar on a college essay, with literary skills like that they’ll have plenty of time in basic grammar/English classes to get it right before they will be taxed with writing anything that will reflect an inkling of intelligence. "

Valley Girl wrote on Aug 27, 2008 2:58 PM:

" Just so there is no confusion- I was NEVER a "free spirit" and you have NEVER had to pay for my child. The father and I have been happily married for over 10 years/ together for 17 years. We both work full time to support our fantastic family of three. "

JayBug wrote on Aug 28, 2008 8:32 AM:

" to everyone attacking TRUTH.... Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone...

everone is entitled to their own opinion, In some cases of shaken baby syndrome, it has been babysitters, extended family, older siblings. I havent exactly read what the facts are yet, But i do believe that justice should be made. However if it was the parents of the baby, sometimes its hard to see the crimes comitted by those we love.

and if i have misspelled a word or 2 or used incorrect grammar, please, a thousand apologies, i didnt realize i was in a spelling/grammar contest.

all my prayers to baby Gonzalez, he is in a better place. "
