Arrest made in robbery near Mall

The armed robbery suspect that caused the Hanford Mall to be locked down for more than two hours last fall was arrested by Hanford Police officers on Monday, when forensic evidence collected at the scene of the crime positively identified the robber.

Roger Glynn, 63, of Fresno, is accused of walking up to a female Hanford resident sitting in her car at the Kings Federal Credit Union on West Lacey Boulevard on Nov. 5. He then allegedly pulled out an unidentified firearm and demanded money, fleeing from the scene with the victim's wallet. At the time, he was last spotted heading in the direction of the Hanford Mall.

What followed was a complete lockdown of the mall, as the Hanford PD SWAT team swept the building and escorted customers from the building to search for the missing suspect.

Nearby Hanford West High School also went into lockdown for a three-hour period as a precaution, in case the suspect fled in that direction following his disappearance from the mall area.

However, the man was not located.

When last interviewed about the case, investigators were in the process of reviewing security camera tapes from the credit union parking lot and those at the Hanford Mall to confirm suspicions about the suspect's identity.

It is also unknown how much money was stolen from the victim.

Glynn was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of robbery and possession of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.

The reporter can be reached at 583-2425.

" I cant believe how scared society and the police departments have become. To lockdown a whole school AND a mall because he MIGHT have gone in that direction is rediculous. This all started when the whimpy police at Columbine were too scared to go in and save innocent lives. If one cop would have confronted them, they could have been stopped. Instead, the cops were thre to mop up the blood and do forencics... How safe... I suew wish we all had the right to carry . Then the scumbags would have to think twice about who they prey upon. If one teacher had a concealed weapon that day, no massacure! "

" to fed up with cops who want to be safe all the time,
its not the law abiding people who are out gangbanging, etc. Arizona does not have the crime we do because of guns laws allowing the carry and ccw provisions, alot of cops may frown but its reality look we just had a cop who was arrested so dont act like it doesnot happen, even some who are stalkers. why not carry first time misdemeanor but it might save your bacon. everyone has a right to carry heres how u do it. if you and another are walking one openly and unloaded carrys the gun while the other carrys the loaded magazine. NO CRIME>>>>>>>>>>>>> "

fed up with haters wrote on Aug 20, 2008 9:37 AM:

" If people feel that the cops are slacking then they should enroll in the Academy and see if they could do better. Stop hating already. I'm sure you all are perfect in your occupations. I appreciate the service the cops provide. You may think it was a joke that they locked down the school, but tell me how many people died that day? EXACTLY! Comparing this to Columbine is ignorant and disrespectful to the ones who lost their lives that day. I hope Mr. Knowledge will go with his gut feeling next time. Help keep these losers off the street. "

WATCHDOG FRED wrote on Aug 20, 2008 11:02 PM:

" Why can't we be satisfied this takes one less criminal off the streets. I don't understand shy when there is a successful capture, comments are made against the arresting officers? With all the laws for the criminal nowadays it is a miracle they can arrest anyone. The victim no longer has any rights they have all been given to the criminals.

As for everyone having guns, not such a good idea. That means all the criminals using guns to create havoc would be legally allowed to carry them. Isn't that a scary thought. I could just see Charles Manson with a legal right to carry a gun before he became a convicted murderer. But then he didn't use a gun did he? "

" To: "Fed up with cops"
First - Learn to spell.
Second - Educate yourself about all the facts regarding the Columbine and Hanford incidents before you criticize them. Obviously, you weren't there (Columbine or involved in the Hanford incident) or you, being the brave person you are would have saved the world.
Third - I have children at that HS and I would rather the police take every precaution to SAVE my children than let them blindly walk outside into what could have been a dangerous situation for any student walking down the street. I suppose you think it would have been better for the police to think that a man with a gun is out on the street, possibly near the school but not do anything to protect the students..?? That would be ridiculous!
I agree GOOD people should have the right to bare arms, but it should be people of sound mind, not fanatics.
Lastly, I don't think being safe is being, "whimpy", I believe police sign up to "protect and serve" not for "suicide or to be ridiculed". I think they have a tough job, one that I wouldn't want and apparently you didn't either. "

" This is for everyone, some of you already know this, and some don't...

School shootings can happen anywhere, to anyone, at anytime! Don't believe me, go to this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_shooting

It is impossible to over react when something of this crimes nature happens. This could have turned ugly then it did. It is very sad that one lady has to live with the trauma of this event the rest of her life; having a gun pulled on you is a very scary situation.

It is a bit of a shame that it took this long to arrest "Mr. Glynn", but investigations do take time; I think it is safe to say that at least this creepo has been captured and is now 'hopefully" going to be served proper justice. "

Bobb wrote on Aug 22, 2008 8:26 PM:

" Amazing- People complain about the school lock-down but if the gunman had went to the West Campus and took hostages these same people would be complaining that the school and police acted improperly not locking down the campus. What is wrong with being very cautious? In this case it was not necessary, but who knew that at the time. Caution on the side of safety is never a waste. "

Valley Girl wrote on Aug 24, 2008 8:34 AM:

" I agree 100% Bobb. HPD didn't know which direction the armed suspect went. Better to error on the side of safety when it comes to our kids. "
