Police investigating death of infant
By Joe Johnson jjohnson@HanfordSentinel.com
Police are investigating the death last week of a Hanford infant who apparently suffered from blunt force trauma.
Victor Gonzalez, 4 weeks old at the time, was airlifted June 8 to Children's Hospital Central California after suffering from severe head trauma, and died on Friday. Gonzalez was discovered as part of a child abuse case that led investigators to the 10900 block of Beverly Drive, where he was found with injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
Medical reports indicated that the child suffered from massive catastrophic injuries to his brain, according to police, and also from two broken ribs.
Police investigators do not have an exact cause of death yet, pending an autopsy, but medical experts agree that the injuries are consistent with shaken baby syndrome and Impact syndrome.
The case is currently ongoing and investigators wish to speak to anyone with additional information about the case. People with information about this case are urged to contact Investigator Bryan Toppan at 585-2540.
The reporter can be reached at 583-2425.
