Huskies win division at Visalia girls tennis tourney

VISALIA - Hanford West High School's girls tennis team won all three of its matches Saturday to claim the division title in the Visalia Invitational tournament.

"All three matches were very close. Saturday was a total team effort. It took all eight girls to get it done. Every single player contributed to winning the tournament," said coach Marc Herron. "The girls are learning to win close matches, that is something that we have failed to do in the past".

Hanford West defeated Granite Hills, Reedley and Tulare Union, all by 3-2 scores, led by the doubles team of Miranda Banuelos and Melanie Reynolds, which won all three of its matches.

Banuelos-Reynolds and the teams of JoAnn Arboleda-Stephanie Garcia and Jessica Stein-Vanessa Hernandez were responsible for all three wins against Tulare Western.

Other winners included May Kong and Gabbi Pascual against Granite Hills and Pascual and Stein-Hernandez against Reedley.
In Friday's indivual play, Hernandez advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated by Holly Ellis of Golden West 8-5. Banuelos-Reynolds also advanced to the semifinals before being eliminated.
