Hanfordshire brought to life again

The 31st annual Renaissance of Kings Cultural Arts Faire at Hanford's Civic Park drew hundreds to attend an event that had food, drinks, games and shows going on Saturday and Sunday.

It was a time to celebrate the old days of the Renaissance era. People dressed up as if they were in the Renaissance era; this year "Hanfordshire" was set in 1520, representing an English town of the time.

Maureen Lacey, 20, an assistant librarian from Hanford, came Saturday to drink soda and soak up the atmosphere.

"I like the variety of smells," she said of the fair.

Others came to just look around. Activities includes arts and crafts, activities for kids and entertainment featuring jugglers, singers, actors and other performers reflecting the period.

"I'm just looking to see what was here," said Neil Pilegard, 44, of Visalia. "It's interesting."

Others like the shows.

"I like the belly dancers," said Roxanne Coffee of Hanford. "It's something to do on town."

Debbie Harmon, 43, of Hanford loved the acrobatic moves performed.

"They're awesome," she said.

Dakota Campos, 17, of Hanford liked eating turkey legs served by one of the vendors. The turkey legs are one of the popular menu items at the Faire.

Ashton Gonzales, 17, of Hanford, liked seeing people dressed up in old costumes.

"It's interesting to see people dressed up long time ago," she said.
