Another Armona response

Editor: I'm responding to the article of Oct. 28, by Margarita Alcala and Lisa Chavarin. They accused three Armona Elementary board members of nepotism, which is not illegal. If they had bothered to check the facts before making false statements, they would have found that two of the people they referred to were hired before these three members were elected to the school boards. The other two were hired at the recommendation of the superintendent because they were the most qualified.

My husband, children and I attended school at Armona Elementary, so we've always had a concern for the school. I've also worked for the Armona Elementary School District for 30 years.

At a forum for prospective board members, these two women were asked what changes they would make if elected and both of them responded that they would not change a thing. That tells me that they think the school is being run as it should be and for the best interest in children.

" It appears some "people" need a history lesson eh. These are facts that long time Armona residents already KNOW.
Kudos Mrs. Amos! "

" I still want to know what they will do to fulfill their promise to get Parkview out of program improvement. They make this promise and refuse to answer questions about their plans. I don't think either one of them really understands the role of a board member. "

" Cynic,,
I too would like to know how they intend to improve Parkview? My kids want to know. NO they won't reply, since their campaign is not run by them. Puppets with no voice. Neither of these board seekers have attended one single board meeting, so there is A LOT they don't know.
Hang tough current school board, we believe in YOU;)

" To: Sharon Amos, then they lied before the entire school board and audience. Because their main agenda is to sit on two board seats and take credit for the amazing job that has been done by the one's they want to replace.

I say show them the door and the entrance to highway 198 east to them. Also make either a left at Hwy. 99 and be happy americans when they reach Los Angeles or San Francisco. They quite obviously missed their turn by coming to Armona. "

I don't think WATCHDOG FRED was trying to call Mrs. Amos deceitful, I think he was telling her that the 2 ladies were if they try to take credit for the terrific job that the current school board is doing.

Thanks, WATCHDOG FRED, I think they're (the current board) doing a pretty amazing job myself. "

If that is the case, I misunderstood & I apologize. "

Thanks, for explaining my position. Those two ladies need to listen to that song "You don't step on Superman's Cape" you don't mess around with junk yard dogs.

The Amos's, I believe were probably one of the founding families in Armona. They've all made Armona proud and worked to make it a better place to live. I have always agreed with the philosophy that if it isn't broke don't fix it.

What the State has done to the California School System should be illegal. They dictate policy after policy and yet never fund anything. No wonder our schools are messed up. If you want to point fingers look for that short muscle bound dude up in Sacramento that drives a Hummer. "

mommyme wrote on Nov 6, 2008 10:08 AM:

" Back when Armona had dirt paths some of the founding families were the Mitsuyoshi's, Funahashi's, Bloyd's, McCann's, Maccagno's, Mura's, Vangronigen's & 2 sets of Dillon families. YES, I have a written history of Armona that I gleaned from now deceased pioneers of the area.
IF I'm correct, the Amos & Estes board member families arrived from Ash Flat Arkansas in the late 1930's or early 1940's? "

Pete wrote on Nov 7, 2008 10:39 AM:

" wrong again mommy. they arrived in the early 1950's. "

Let me get this right, now you are declaring the dust bowl era residents in Armona didn't contribute as much as the other families you have listed. I have news for you many of those families you mentioned owned farms and if not for those oakies and arkies they would have had profits much lower. The oakies and arkies from the dust bowl era brought with them skills Californians had not developed in farming yet. Because of their former locations many of those arkies and oakies knew how to fix and repair equipment in the fields, they didn't have a local dealer at dealer price to come fix it for them. Many fertilizer and soil additaves to increase production came in that same time frame. Oakies and arkies didn't need satelites to till a row or cut an irrigation ditch, they did it by line of sight as accurate as GPS is today.
Many forget the oakies and arkies were the minority in this valley for a very long time. The only difference is many became educated and moved on to better things. (Continued) "

(Continued) so if I offended you by leaving a few names out forgive me. But don't downplay the importance of what those people and my parents did for the progess of this county. I thank my lucky stars everyday for the upbringing my parents provided for me and their parents too. My parents not only took care of us and raised us they took care of their own parents as well, something unheard of today. I worked in a local Convalescent Hospital for three years, I saw parent after parent die of broken hearts because they felt abandoned by their families. Yes some need the added medical care but many don't and just because the body doesn't function doesn't mean the brain doesn't either. I had many very heartfelt and interesting conversations and learned a lot about Hanford by listening to those wonderful people who we owe everything to for what this county and country is today. Every contribution should be appreciated as long as it is that a contribution not a distractor from the importance of educatiion. "
