Giants drop finale
By Sentinel Sports Staff
ROCKLIN -- College of the Sequoias missed opportunities on its last two possessions, allowing Sierra College a 30-23 win in a Valley Conference football game Saturday.
The loss ended the season for the Giants with 5-5 overall and 2-3 VC marks, a one game improvement from last season.
Sierra (9-1, 4-1) ends the season tied for first in the VC with Reedley. Reedley hosts Butte (Oroville) for the Northern California championship next week, while Sierra plays Santa Rosa Junior College.
COS trailed 20-13 at halftime and closed to within seven points, 30-23, with 8:14 left on a 25-yard field goal by Hanford West grad Cody Shaw. The Giants were forced to punt on their next possession, however, and were intercepted on their last, allowing Sierra to run out the clock.
Shaw was two-of-three on extra point tries an also had 10 punts for an average of 36.8 yards per try.
