Panthers gain 14 All-ESL spots

Led by league MVP Brant Botill, Corcoran High School earned 14 spots on the first All-East Sequoia League football team, it was announced Monday. Botill, a senior, rushed for 1,966 yards as Corcoran finished second to Bakersfield Christian in the Central Section Division V playoffs.

Joe Talemontez was named lineman of the year.

Two Panthers, Faustino Aguilar and Andrew Burke, were picked on offense and defense. Burke made the team as a wide receiver and a defensive back, while Aguilar was tabbed on the offensive and defensive lines.

Dustin Pearce (offensive line), Gailen Fair (tight end), Pete Armbruster (linebacker), Edgar Figueroa (kicker) and Richard Sahagun (specialty player) were unanimous picks. Also making the first team were Dustin Pearce (offensive line), Jessie Lawler and Micheal Walls (defensive line), and Anthony Ramirez (linebacker). A full list can be found on the scoreboard page.

WRESTLING

Hanford 15th at Coyote Classic

BAKERSFIELD -- Senior Gabriel Velasquez finished fourth at 135 pounds to lead Hanford High School to a 15th place finish at the Coyote Classic on Saturday.

"Our seniors are doing a great job of wrestling without a full lineup due to football," said coach Eric Rodriguez. "Hopefully with football finishing we will get a boost from our football players coming to wrestling in the practice room and at wrestling tournaments."

Other wrestlers placing for Hanford were Ejay Landicho, sixth at 140, and John Chandler, eighth at heavyweight. Tanner Murietta at 160 was sidelined after the first day due to a concussion.

JC FOOTBALL

Three FGs for Shaw in loss

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Hanford West High School product Cody Shaw, representing College of the Sequoias, kicked three field goals, from 50, 33 and 35 yards, but the California all-stars fell to the USA all-stars 17-16 Saturday at Chandler High School, in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

The game featured 85 of the top players in the country, according to the game's Web site.
