Williams again named WYL MVP

For the second straight year, Cougar Williams was voted best in the West Yosemite League. The Hanford senior was selected by coaches as the WYL's boys basketball Player of the Year after leading the Bullpups to a 21-8 record. He also signed a letter of intent to play football at Cal Poly.
Last year, Williams led Hanford to a Central Section Division III title.
For leading Lemoore to a school-record 28 wins and a WYL championship, T.J. Wilkins was named Coach of the Year. The Tigers finished 28-6 overall and 11-1 in the WYL before being knocked off in the Central Section Division II semifinals by eventual champion Garces.
Getting first team all-league honors were: D.J. Jackson-Maciel, Hanford; Ross Rivera, El Diamante; Rodney Webster, Hanford West; Cheyanne Alcala, Lemoore; Donald Lee and Money Nagra, Redwood; and Devin Lovering, Golden West.
Making second team all-league were: Kameron Hoyt and T.J. Johnson, Lemoore; Taylor George, Redwood; Warren Moon, Hanford West; Randall Robinson, Mt. Whitney; Greg Storey, El Diamante; and Michael Faccinto, Hanford.
Earning honorable mentions from Lemoore were Hector Guzman, Eugene Tillery Jr., Jaelin Avery and Donald Daugherty.
Honorable mentions from Hanford were Beau Felder and Eric Mechtly while Hanford West's Ethen Carrell also nabbed honorable mention honors.
Love wins 100
at Kern Relays
BAKERSFIELD - Hanford West's Vontrail Love solidified his spot as one of the top sprinters in the Central Section Friday night, turning in a 10.83 seconds (electronically timed) in winning the 100 meters at the Kern Relays.
"That's a blazing time for the beginning of the season," said Hanford West coach Bill Chambers. "That probably makes him No. 1 in the Valley."
Love also anchored Hanford West's 4x100 relay team to a fifth-place finish (43.8). He was joined by Chris Leicter, Issac Banuelos and D.J. Williams.
Banuelos was also third in the long jump (20 feet, 9 inches).
Freshman Emonie Epps had a pair of second-place finishes, in the 400 (1:02.91) and 200 (26.65).
Another freshman, Kelsey Lopez, was ninth in the 400 (1:07.82) and seventh in the 800 (2:39.45).
Haley Novicedo was 11th in the 400 (1:09.97).
Priscilla Cabello took third in the pole vault (8-0).
Torres named
ESL girls MVP
Corcoran junior Tabitha Torres was named league MVP when the all-East Sequoia League team was announced.
Erica Haro of Woodlake was named defensive player of the year, and Woodlake's Kris Schlossin and Richard Miranda were co-coaches of the year.
Corcoran landed three players on the first team, senior Ariel Pruitt, senior Priscilla Zepeda and senior Kim Gomez. Also making the first squad were Maribel Bravo of Strathmore, Haro and Stevi Ibarra of Lindsay.
Corcoran junior Marina LeFridge made the second team.
WHCL golfers seventh
PASO ROBLES - Eddie Limon had a two-day score of 159 in leading West Hills College Lemoore to a seventh place finish at the North-South Cup tournament at Hunter Ranch Golf Club.
Ventura College won the tournament with a two-day score of 750, a stroke ahead of Santa Barbara City College.
Limon was joined in the scoring by SJ Ban, 162; Blake Ahlin, 164; Johnathan Smith, 165; Jed Noonkester 166; and JD Brewer, 177.
