Local swine flu hotline begins

There are no confirmed or suspected cases of swine flu reported in Kings County, but concerned residents can now contact the state public health department hotline with questions and concerns.

The hotline began Wednesday and will be available daily from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and can be reached by calling 1-888-865-0564.

Calls after hours receive a recording with basic swine flu information and a recommendation to call or go to the emergency room if they cannot wait until the next day for information.

Spanish translation is available starting today.

Information about swine flu in California and links to the CDC can be found at www.cdph.ca.gov.

" This is really going to put a crimp into the Cinco de Mayo celebrations I fear.

Looking at all the news reports, all activity in Mexico is basically shutting down.

Except for the border, of course!

And the airports... "

" this could put a crimp with all festivities, doesn't just affect mexicans or those parties it can affect you and your loved ones as well. "

" valleygirl08: Some people just cannot resist playing the race card at any opportunity. Here are few examples from the same author previously posted in the Sentinel forums:

"whenever you have birds around in massive numbers, they just multiply and stay forever and crap all over the place."

"After all, he's got the right race, the right disability, the right political party."

"Eatin Good in the Neighborhood" is apparently too inviting to some people from the 'Hood! "

"No one had their hand out looking for entitlements or freebies. Perhaps not so strangely there was a group of three people from the same family who were speaking a foreign language to each other. They looked puzzled as if they could not understand what was being said by the Tea Party speakers. As I happen to speak that particular language, I overheard the wife asking the husband where the food was being served." "

" Well shucks...Cinco de Mayo IS the next big national celebration that could be affected by the swine flu that is devastating Mexico: how is that fact racist?

Now I know (as I suspected) that someone stays up late squirreling away snippets of quotes taken out of context while failing to confront others when overwhelmed by incontestable facts and the general American patriotic discourse.

All I can say is ‘Thank God' for the invocation of Comedy and American principle of Freedom of Speech!

But say, I can't decide which one of these IS the definitive patriotic Phil Ochs quote that applies here:

"Leaving America is like losing twenty pounds and finding a new girlfriend."
- Phil Ochs

or

"Does defending liberalism leave you friendless and perhaps wondering about your breath?"
- Phil Ochs

Can't decide?

Well, I guess that some people can't resist playing the expatriate card at any opportunity.

And concerning this Sentinel topic, I believe that the flu hotline is a really good idea - in English, Spanish, or any other language! "
