People have no respect

Editor: In response to the letter "Clean up our streets" by James Hatfield, I agree with him. I also live on West Sixth Street. That's not all that's going on down here.

In October, I had a bunk bed for sale in my yard. It was out for over a month and someone came when it was dark and foggy and stole it. I was selling it to make a little bit of money for Christmas, because I don't make that much and I just had a baby. I was very upset. I put a sign out by my mailbox to the person who had stolen it. It said "thanks for taking the bed off of my hands and for ruining my kids' Christmas."

Then a couple of months ago someone stole my husband's shoes off my porch. It disgusts me because you can't leave anything on the porch.

There also has been tagging all along this street on empty houses, garages, Holt Lumber and many more. People drive too fast and the cops only come out here to meet their quota for the month. Like Mr. Hatfield said, someone is going to get hit when they're backing out. People don't slow down for anything, not for an animal or even a human being. What are they going to wait for, a child to get killed? I hope not because that would be horrible.

When you first drive down here, starting from 11th Avenue, you think it's a dangerous street. You first see the back of stores and their garbage around everywhere, then an empty building which was the Dollar Movies with a fence around it. Thanks for putting the fence up because that cracked down on some of the bums hanging around.

Then some of the houses aren't kept up and then at the end of the street is going to be the new hospital. I can't wait for that to come and hopefully it influences people to clean up!

DID YOU NOT READ THE STORY SHE SAID SHE PUT THE BUNKBEDS OUT TO RAISE MONEY FOR HER KIDS CHRISTMAS PRESENTS,BUT SOMEONE STOLD THEM ,BUT PEOPLE LIKE YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT OTHER PEOPLE NOT LIVING THE HIGH LIFE DEAL WITH DAY AFTER DAY IT IS HARD. WATCH WHEN YOU NEED MONEY AND ARE DOWN ON UR LUCK AND YOU TRY TO SELL SOMETHING THEN OUT OF NOWHERE IT IS GONE AND YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK. NOT EVERYONE WAS BORN WITH A SILVER SPOON. "

" Kassie,

I understand your concerns! I'm not sure writing the Hanford Sentinel will get you the results you're looking for. Maybe you should start running you're complaints through the city counsel?

Lemoore has a few neighborhoods with VERY LARGE speed bumps on there roads... maybe Hanford could do something like that... as this is a residential area.

To Junebug... seriously the CAPS... what the "heck", you know better than that. "

junebug wrote on Aug 2, 2009 9:46 PM:

" to bluefalcon559 i put it in caps so people could the point of what shes trying to say. you have a smart idea about the speed bumps hanford should do something like that.

to con carne what side of town you live on. you must live by cops. "

AND IF MY NEIGHBORS HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BUNKBED OUT THEY WOULD HAVE TOLD ME BUT I REALLY DONT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THAT BECAUSE I DONT HAVE CLOSE NEIGHBORS. YOU JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT PEOPLE HAVE TO DO TO GET BY IN LIFE CAUSE YOU MUST HAVE ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD BUT WHEN ITS GONE YOU'LL REGRET WHAT YOU HAVE TOLD ME. TO JUNEBUG AND BLUEFALCON559 THANKS FOR AGREEING WITH ME. AND TO CON CARNE JUST WAIT UNTIL ITS GONE ONE DAY AND YOU'LL SEE. AND I DONT KNOW WHO YOUR TALKING ABOUT. "

" This story was so good the Sentinel had to post it twice. I can't believe the lucky person who made off with a soggy, wet, dirty, left outside for over a month bunk bed. What a great deal! "

Amanda R wrote on Aug 3, 2009 1:32 PM:

" bluefalcon559: I live in one of those Lemoore neighborhoods with the speedbumps. Unfortunately, the speedbumps end on the block before us and as soon as people get over those, it's a race. We have small children and no fence. We are constantly asking people to slow down, but they don't care. Finally Lemoore PD has taken notice and been more present.
Kassie, we too have had things stolen from the front of our house. Someone walked up and stole flower baskets hanging from my porch! For that reason, and multiple eggings, glass thrown at my garage, and someone driving through my yard once, we do not decorate our home anymore. Ssoon we will install a camera system. It's just sad that people can't feel secure in their own homes anymore because of the few that have no consideration. "

Americantaxpayer wrote on Aug 3, 2009 4:35 PM:

" Good luck getting the Hanford City Council to install speed bumps or even listen to your complaints. Several of my neighbors and I have asked the City Council to install speed bumps on Marconi Dr and Dawn Ave to slow down the speeders. We have had several animals, parked cars, one child and even a house hit by speeding non licence drivers not giving a dam about the driving laws or anything else of that matter. The City Council has done nothing about it even with the police department supporting our cause. Your street is not the only one with problems and I know where your coming from. placing a bunk bed out in front of your house is not a good idea unless your having a yard sale. All your stuff needs to be cleaned up and put away after your yard sale is done. You should have run an ad in the newspaper and put out flyers at the local stores which would have solved our missing bunk bed situation. "

kassie wrote on Aug 3, 2009 9:35 PM:

" to debe thats not the point!! the point is people shouldnt be stealing from private property, speeding, and should keep there properties kept up in case of fires. but you must not get it cause you must be soo perfect!! my house is one of the few houses that is kept up. and it wasnt crap thats why the person took it.
to jeff hahaha very funny and it wasnt even like that. yeah they made off with a very expensive bunk bed that i was selling for cheap. some people just dont understand.
well thanks to amanda r. "

kassie wrote on Aug 3, 2009 9:49 PM:

" to americantaxpayer well thanks for kinda understanding what im talking about. but when i had yard sales before i had left my stuff out for a few days because i was having it the following days no one ever took anything. i had a call the day before it was tooken about it and i returned the call but there was no answer and then that nite it was tooken so i suspect it was the person who had called about it. but whatever whats goes around comes around god will punish whoever did it if he hasnt already. then when im generous and leave the left over yard sale stuff out for free people want to come and throw the stuff around in my yard, im just trying to help the less and fortunate. "

thats sad! havent found them yet. and this was about 3 months ago "

MOM1KIDS3 wrote on Aug 4, 2009 12:19 PM:

Over the years I have lived in "good" areas and "bad" areas and honestly in either area if I didn't want it stolen I put it away..NOT IN MY FRONT YARD FOR A MONTH!!! "

baristamclane wrote on Aug 4, 2009 2:14 PM:

" It seems to me that you're looking for sympathy in the wrong venue. An item of yours was stolen because you carelessly left it out in your yard, and you write a letter of complaint? And how do you expect that you resolve the issue exactly? It sucks that there are people out there that are cold-hearted enough to steal right out of someones yard (my mother's teaching credentials were stolen out of a briefcase in her car...of all things). However, it would've been smarter to sell the bunk beds on craigslist or in the newspaper. And before you accuse me too, of having a silver spoon in my mouth, I grew up in the same neighborhood. Our stuff rarely was stolen, because we didn't store anything on the lawn. I'm with Debe on this one... "

debe wrote on Aug 4, 2009 2:17 PM:

" First of all I do not have all the money in the world! I never siad your house was run down or not kept up! And do agree with you that theft is wrong. You were complaining about the neighborhood LOOKING run down. Furniture on someones property with a for sale sign for a couple of days is fine. But for a month and in Oct??? you said it was very expensive and you were selling it cheap, and someone came in the night and FOG and stole it, furniture left out for more than a couple of days in the night air and the fog is no longer expensive, it becomes an eyesore to the neighborhood and community.

I do not know you and am not judging you, this is an opinion section and I was just stating my opinion. I would not want to see furniture sitting in my neighbors yard for more than a couple of days, no matter what neighborhood ot how nice the furniture might be. "

" Kassie: I too live on west sixth street, actually, I grew up on this same neighborhood and now that I'm older I can honestly say that I don't feel secure at all. if your coming down sixth street I live on the railroad side and I dislike it because every night I feel like someones looking into our windows I have to close the shades really good so that I can feel a little secure and your right, cops hardly go out there, maybe we should get together sometime and see what we can do for our neighborhood. "

" well thanks to muneca!! someone agrees with me. i only been living on this street over a year now and i no how you feel. my family and i thought someone was living under our house because the door that goes under the house would be open some times so my husband went under there and found flashlights, blankets, and canned food under there so my landlord put a secure door there so who ever couldnt go under there so i know how you feel. TO WHO HAD HATED ON ME I REALLY DONT CARE ABOUT THE BUNKBED NOW ITS DONE AND OVER WITH NO ONE CAN BRING IT BACK. THATS NOT WHY I WROTE THE LETTER IN THE FIRST PLACE. I WROTE IT TO AGREE WITH MR. HATFIELD WHO LIVES ON THIS STREET ALSO "THAT PEOPLE JUST DONT CARE" it matters what kind of neighbors you live by not what side of town you live in i lived in homegardens, on florinda st, on ivy st and no one ever stole nothing from my house before. but thats ok what goes around comes around "

Emerald wrote on Aug 4, 2009 7:29 PM:

" I wasn't going to bother commenting, but I have to agree with baristamclane and debe here. And to be honest, I live in the "good" part of town and I don't appreciate the way you pretty much put down those of us who DO live in nicer areas. Do you think it should have happened to us instead? Do you think crime doesn't happen in the nice part of town? Think again. However, as was already pointed out, if you leave things out in your front yard for a month, of course someone is going to take it. You're lucky it wasn't gone before that. And if you knew you lived in a bad area why not put it in at night? Or find another method of selling it?
I know that you really only want to hear from people who'll agree with you or tell you what you want to hear. But the truth is, to some degree the fact the item was stolen was your own fault. What happened WAS wrong, but, take some responsibility too. "

OneCaringResident wrote on Aug 4, 2009 7:52 PM:

" Well, everything in our society has a policy and procedure. In Lemoore, we have speeding problems, gang problems and theft just the same. Everything we do must go through a proper procedure. We have an atrous speeding problem down Keith and Opal Streets. Yet, per procedure, we must wait for a study of the speeding and traffic before we can justify them. And, according to our City Manager, the residents of the street must pay for them! These even after one car ran into a neighbors yard! All I can say is talk to your neighbors, sign petitions and work together to get your community a better place. We all have to start some place. "

Common sense would tell you know matter where you live not to leave your personal property, or things of value outside , where it can be stolen/or taken for any amount of time. The longer it is there, the more people see it, and believe it is going to be "free" up for grabs, or easy to take.
Sorry you had to learn the hard way . Stop leaving your things on the porch! Shoes included. No sympathy here. Sorry . "

F YOU ALL and the next person who treaspasses on my property will regret it!! "

To: watchdog fred this neighborhood watch that you say it is people are too scared to do that on west 6th st. because of all the bums and the drugs that the cops don't do anything about they just let it happen because its not in there neighborhood they are fine with it happening to lower class people. to the police do your job and help the lower class to not just your friends. " Many social issues here (bed-bug-a-boos)!

Different strokes for different folks? People are who choose...it’s about choices. Circumstances come to be...by choices made.

It is skin deep though, isn't it? In today's America, the last thirty years of affirmative action gave sooooo many locals "opportunities" to "move up and out!"

People of all colors...people on the dole...on the system, feel beat down...because they choose to stay down...it on YOURSELF, up to YOUSELF where you live to push for moral and self-sustaining respected accomplishments in life.

Public schooling here in America is free and has been afforded ALL people. You choose to live with your own kind, don't assimilate to living mainstream, or culturally don't live in a so-called better location. You cry out, living in a neighborhood associated with jailbirds and gang bangers...which majority of the families over on that side of town have under their own roofs because it is culturally accepted.

Blame constituents and local government leaders of pro-imported labor, pro-socialist, slum-lords, Hanford Government Center&Kings County Board of Realtors for the condition of THEIR neighborhoods you live in! "

I did not "Hate on Kassie" I am sure she and her family are very nice, law abiding, tax paying people. I never said anything derogatory(negative) about her, her family or her home. I merely pointed out the fact the she, herself, was complaining about the neighborhood, people not caring about it, and that she, herself had furniture in her front yard for over a month (no matter how gucci it was) people passing thru the neighborhood may get the impression the she, herself didnt care about the neighborhood looking like a swap meet.
