COS beats Eagles on Botill’s TD

VISALIA - Corcoran High graduate Brant Botill scored the go-ahead touchdown with 30 seconds left and College of the Sequoias stopped Feather River's (Quincy) six yards short of the goal line on the final play of the game to defeat the Golden Eagles 14-7 on Saturday.

The game was the season opener for both schools.

Botill, who led the Panthers to the Central Section Division V title game last year, took a pass from Chris Mayabb on a third-and-two play 65 yards for the touchdown with 30 seconds left.

Botill let the Giants offensively with three catches for 90 yard and also had 15 carries for 66 yards.

COS opened the scoring on a quarterback sneak by Philip Brandt on the last play of the first quarter. Feather River tied the game on a 47-yard run by Enrico Pendergrass with 13:12 left in regulation.

The Giants outgained Feather River 277-207, with three quarterbacks combining for 214 yards passing.

Defensively for the Giants, Earvin Gonzalez had nine punts for an average of 37.1 yards, Shaman Gaines blocked a punt late in the second quarter and Sheldon Richardson had eight tackles.

COS plays at Foothill (Los Altos Hills) next Saturday at 7 p.m.

Horn scores for Reedley

SANTA ROSA - Sophomore Avery Horn from Hanford High school scored Reedley College's lone touchdown as the Tigers lost at Santa Rosa Junior College 14-12 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

Horn is a sophomore at Reedley after transferring from the University of Michigan.

He led the Tigers with 39 yards on 15 carries. The touchdown came on a 4-yard run.

Also for Reedley, sophomore Gabriel Mcagee from Hanford West had four yards on three carries.

The Tigers open their home season Saturday agains Allen Hancock (Santa Maria). Game time is 6 p.m. at Reedley High School.
