LEMOORE - With less than three minutes left in the game, Lemoore was driving to victory.
The Tigers entered Sanger territory on the move.
Oh, how the bounce of a ball can change things.
An incomplete pass that bounced off a Lemoore receiver's foot went up in the air and was intercepted, setting up the Apache's game-winning 35 yard field goal with 1:06 left as Sanger left Tiger Stadium with a 17-14 victory.
Lemoore had four turnovers, two in the game's final two minutes to drop to 0-3 on the season.
"We just had too many mistakes," said Lemoore head coach Shaun Ball. "It was a game we should have won."
Before that point, it looked like the bounces were going to go in Lemoore's direction.
In the second quarter tied at 0-0, the Tigers lined up for a 16-yard field goal by Luke Schuh.
Schuh missed the kick, the ball going under the players blocking at the line of scrimmage and bouncing off an Apache player, stopping at the line.
Lemoore players pounced on it, to take over at the one.
On the next play, Darius Chandler drove in to give Lemoore the 7-0 lead.
"We go over the rules with the kids," Ball said. "They knew what to do if it goes past the line of scrimmage and is touched."
But Sanger (2-1) tied it right away.
Sanger took the kickoff on tied it up two plays later after Prince Glover broke out from a cluster of players for a 62-yard touchdown run.
In the third quarter, Lemoore stripped the ball on a rush and recovered it only to give it back to the Apaches two plays later.
Sanger took advantage of a short field, starting at the Lemoore 41, and scored five plays later on Lafaele Fauntary's 2-yard run to make it 14-7.
Two possessions later, Lemoore punted and pinned Sanger down at the 1.
After a 3-and-out, the Tigers took over at the Sanger 43.
On third-and-nine, Sam Raymond took a handoff up the middle and converted the first down on an 11 yard rush.
Jarred Cardoza then caught a pass from Scott Loper that bounced off the back of a Sanger defender that moved Lemoore to the four-yard-line.
Raymond tied it up with 9:30 but that was the last time Lemoore scored as the Tigers lost their sixth game in a row dating back to last season.
After Sanger's Jorge Hernandez knocked in the go-ahead field goal, Loper threw his second interception in a one minute span to seal the loss.
Raymond rushed for 75 yards on 14 carries for Lemoore.
Loper was 13-of-24 passing for 148 yards with two interceptions.
Derek Harris caught four receptions for 61 yards.
For Sanger, Glover finished with 75 yards on six carries.
Connor Luallen had 47 yards on six carries.
Lemoore starts West Yosemite League play next week.
The Tigers will travel to Hanford to face Hanford West at the Neighbor Bowl.
Lemoore won the junior varsity game 41-20.
