WM is a good neighbor

Editor: With so many agricultural companies here in the Valley that need a place to dispose of chemicals, waste and byproducts, we have to have Waste Management's Kettleman Hills Facility here.

I think we're lucky that the service is local and is reasonably priced. And the site is run by folks who have been there a long time, live here in the Valley and have given money to charities in the community.

I know the opposition to the landfill are concerned about health issues. Honestly, I have concerns about health issues in the Valley, too.

But the WM site is safe. I'd like folks to get the facts about this situation so they can decide for themselves. The Kings County Planning Commission should support companies that support our ag businesses.

" If I were looking at sources of pollution in Ketttlemen City, I would chec k for Chromium 6, not from Waste Management, but from PG&E's Natural Gas Pumping Station on Plymouth Ave. as the source. Chromium 6 was used in the Cooling Towers that are on this plant. This is what bought Erin Brokovich to prominence, and it was another Natural Gas Pumping site that belonged to PG&E that brought this out. I believe that it is entirely possible for the winds in the westside to carry this pollutant that far. Winds in that area seldom come from the direction of Waste Management to Kettlemen City. "
