Hanford West student one of 97 chosen for All-American Band

Eric Bentley of Hanford West High School has been chosen to be a member of the third-annual U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.

Bentley, 16, will perform with 96 other high school students from around the country at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio,Texas on Jan. 9, 2010.

He was one out of 97 chosen throughout the country and one of only two students who will be representing California.

Bentley, who followed in his father’s footsteps, has been playing the trumpet since he was in fifth grade and said he is honored at the opportunity.

“I love band and I love football, so it’s going to be an awesome thing to be a part of,” he said.

" Congratulations for a job well done. It takes time and perseverance to accomplish something as noble as this. I am somewhat dismayed though that there are over 30 blogs concerning the HH-HW football controversy and only a few congratulating Eric. I guess sports are the most important thing going in the local high schools as they get most of the press. Again, great job Eric. "
