Bike violation leads to drug arrest
By Joe Johnson jjohnson@HanfordSentinel.com
A Corcoran man who refused to stop his bicycle for police officers was arrested Tuesday when he was found with a small amount of methamphetamine.
Police officers were on patrol in the 1300 block of Corcoran’s Bainum Avenue when they noticed a man riding his bike in the area without proper lighting equipment, Corcoran police said. The officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on the wayward vehicle just before 1 a.m., but the man continued peddling away without stopping.
Patrol officers followed the biker down Bainum Avenue, then off onto Heffner Avenue. Officers continued trying to direct the bike rider to stop, only to be consistently ignored.
Once he reached the 1600 block of Heffner, the man dismounted and immediately took off running down the street. He was arrested on someone’s front lawn a short distance away.
The reporter can be reached at 583-2425.
Raymond Burns, 34, was searched and found to be carrying approximately 1.5 grams of methamphetamine. He was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of possession and transportation of narcotics, along with a count of resisting arrest.
His bail was set at $30,000.
