-- Free diabetes screening Nov. 9 at Walgreens

HANFORD -- In honor of National Diabetes Month in November, the Hanford Walgreens store is offering free diabetes screening and consultation from 1 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 9.

Free blood glucose screenings (for patients without diabetes) and A1c tests (for patients with diabetes) will be available, along with pharmacist counseling sessions.

The Walgreens in Hanford is located at the northwest corner of Grangeville Boulevard and 11th Avenue.

-- KVPT Holiday Auction
KVPT's second annual Holiday Auction will take place from Tuesday through Nov. 23 at www.kvpt.org/auction. A preview show will air on KVPT-HD at various times throughout the course of the auction, but bidding will take place online only.

-- Black Tuesday

FRESNO -- New Orleans style jazz band Black Tuesday, which comes from the Sacramento area, will play for the Fresno Dixieland Society at 1 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Radisson Hotel, 2223 Ventura St. Cost is $12. Information: call 292-3999.

-- Casino Party

HANFORD -- A Casino Party will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Remington, 2727 N. 11th Ave. for seniors age 55 and over. The big prize in the drawing is a five-day cruise to the winner's choice of Mexico or the Caribbean. At 6:45 p.m. those attending will be entertained by Michael Sinatra in the Frank Sinatra style. There will be drawings at the concert as well, and winners must be present to win.

-- Hanford Senior Citizens, Inc.

HANFORD -- Hanford seniors will celebrate Halloween on Oct. 31 with a catered dinner at 5 p.m., by Cal Clement Catering. Attendance prizes will be given out and bingo will be played. Members are $5, guests are $5 for a 2010 membership and $5 for dinner. Tickets are now on sale.

On Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., there will be a dance upstairs at the Hanford Senior/Veterans Hall with the Randy Fowler Band. Cost is $6. On Monday bingo will be held from noon to 3:30 p.m.

-- Trick-or-Treat

HANFORD -- A fun-for-the-entire family alternative to traditional trick-or-treat. Come join the fun from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Park on Irwin Street. There will be games, carousel rides, carnival food, bounce houses, a costume parade and trick-or-treating.

This event is sponsored by local area churches.

HANFORD -- The Common Threads Quilt Guild will meet with a social hour at 6 p.m. and a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ, 1596 W. Grangeville Blvd. Saturday at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Barbara Dieges will have a workshop at the Quilters Quarters in Hanford. There is a $5 meeting since we have a speaker. You can become a member for 25 for a year. There is a charge for the workshops.

From 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Hanford Mall, 1675 W. Lacey Blvd.

-- Sons of Norway

TULARE -- Sons of Norway Stordalen Lodge 6-115 hosts its 34th Annual Dinner and Bazaar on Nov. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Tulare Community Church's Fellowship Hall, 1820 N. Gem St. Dinner tickets are $7.

Funds benefit the Lodge's high school scholarship awarded to a senior from Tulare or Kings counties.

-- Youth Orchestras fundraising event

FRESNO -- Youth Orchestras of Fresno, serving the Central Valley, seeks artists to paint and otherwise decorate violins to be auctioned off at the Youth Orchestra's Evening of Enchantment fundraising event March 27, 2010 at CSU Fresno.

 Artists must submit applications by Sunday. Ten artists will receive donated violins deemed unplayable to use for the event.
