HANFORD -- The Kings County Historical Society will hold its monthly Board of Directors meeting on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Grangeville Hall. The public is invited to attend.

-- Free diabetes screening at Walgreens
HANFORD -- In honor of National Diabetes Month in November, the Hanford Walgreens store is offering free diabetes screening and consultation from 1 to 7 p.m. on Monday.
Free blood glucose screenings (for patients without diabetes) and A1c tests (for patients with diabetes) will be available, along with pharmacist counseling sessions.
Walgreens is located at the northwest corner of Grangeville Boulevard and 11th Avenue in Hanford.

HANFORD -- An informational meeting for Miss Kings County 2010 will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Comfort Inn in Hanford. The pageant is open to women between the ages of 17 (a senior in high school) and 24, who have never married or had children.

KVPT's second annual Holiday Auction will take place through Nov. 23 at

LEMOORE -- Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino will recognize Veterans on Wednesday with a special morning ceremony. The ceremony will take place at the front entrance of the Casino of the Moon with an 8 a.m. start time.
The ceremony will feature local performers, the presentation of colors from the Lemoore High School NJROTC program with an Armed Drill Team showcase, along with words from local veterans and Tachi Palace Casino Management.
Seating will be made available to guests and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

HANFORD -- Local author Don Smith will speak on Nov. 19 at the Kings County Library, 401 N. Douty St. The event is from 7 to 8 p.m. Smith is the author of Coach Sez, a book for educators, coaches and parents. Using 49 years of experience in the classroom as both teacher and coach, the Chowchilla author has gone on to become a motivational speaker. This is a free event. Refreshments will be provided by Friends of the Library. Books will be available for purchase and a book signing with the author will follow.

FRESNO -- Youth Orchestras of Fresno, serving the Central Valley, seeks artists to paint and otherwise decorate violins to be auctioned off at the Youth Orchestra's Evening of Enchantment fundraising event March 27, 2010 at CSU Fresno.
Artists must submit applications by Sunday. Ten artists will receive donated violins deemed unplayable to use for the event.

-- Holiday Tour
HANFORD -- The Kings Art Center Guild will host it's 2009 Holiday Tour on Dec. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. In anticipation of celebrating it's 20th year, the Guild is presenting two homes and two historical buildings, all fully decorated, in the Hanford area. The Tour includes the home of Nancy and Dusty Howze, a McMillin model home decorated by Treasure Bin, and two business locations, Adair and Evans as well as Griswald, LaSalle, Cobb, Dowd and Gin.
Following the Tour and starting at 7 p.m., a reception will be held at the Kings Art Center, 605 North Douty St., with refreshments and live music. A raffle will be held at 7:30 p.m.; you must be present to win. This fundraising event is held each December to raise money for the many programs at the Kings Art Center, especially for children's art classes and art scholarships for those unable to afford the fee. Tickets are $20 per person and are available from the Kings Art Center office or from any Guild member, as well as at Van Andel's Menswear, 210 West 7th St. and at Artisan's, 111 West 7th St.
