LNAS says base security is good

In response to a deadly shooting that killed 12 and injured 31 Thursday at an Army base in Texas, Lemoore Naval Air Station released a statement about the kinds of security measures it takes on base.

"We do everything possible to keep our personnel and their families safe on a daily basis," according to a press release issued by LNAS spokeswoman Melinda Larson.

In an interview with The Sentinel, Larson called the Texas shootings "a terrible incident that's happened to our brothers and sisters in arms."

Larson noted that the shooters in the Texas incident, which took place at Ft. Hood, a huge training base, were soldiers rather than outside attackers.

Calling it an "inside job," Larson asked, "How can you protect from that?"
"I think our security is appropriate. It's at the appropriate level," she said.
