BAKERSFIELD - No. 6 Ridgeview put up 21 points in the third quarter on their way to a 42-30 victory over No. 11 Hanford West in the first round of Division III playoffs at Wolf Pack Stadium on Friday night.

Ridgeview's Tyler Dogins led the offense with four touchdowns, rushing for 162 yards on 18 carries while passing for 39 yards.

"It felt good tonight, the team played well," said Dogins, "We made a couple of mistakes and we can't be doing that in the playoffs. We need to work hard this week and prepare for the next game."

Ridgeview jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead during their first possession, when running back Donte Malloy turned a Wolf Pack fumble into a 22-yard touchdown run.

Hanford West answered on the ensuing drive when a speedy Anthony Hicks broke out of the backfield and sprinted 46-yards for the score, tying the game at 7.

Ridgeview quarterback Joe Ceja put his team back up by 7 when he fired a strike over the middle to wide receiver Shannon Edwards that turned into a 22-yard touchdown.

Ridgeview increased their lead by 14 in the second when Gabriel Ramos picked off a pass at the Huskies 29 yard line. That set up a Wolf Pack touchdown as Tyler Dogins connected with Jacob Spears over the middle for a 15-yard touchdown.

The Huskies closed to within six as quarterback Cody Skaggs hit Rayshon Espirito for an 11-yard touchdown reception to end the half, 21-15.

It was a wild start to the second half when Dogins and the Huskies Hicks traded back-to-back 70 and 75-yard touchdown runs in the opening minutes of the third.

Dogins added his third touchdown of the contest, slamming into the end zone on a 5-yard run, and his fourth when found a wide open C.J. Durant for a 24-yard touchdown, giving Ridgeview a comfortable 42-22 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

Hanford West didn't go quietly, as Hicks ran 80 yards for his third touchdown of the game with two seconds remaining. Hicks had 159 yards on 13 carries.

"We started off a little slow tonight, they answered everything we had for them," said Ridgeview coach Dennis Manning, "Ultimately our players stepped up and it was a great win for us and the program."

This is Ridgeview's second playoff win against Hanford West, the last coming in 2005.
