Escapee returns in custody to Kings Co.
By Joe Johnson jjohnson@HanfordSentinel.com
The Lemoore man named in two high-speed pursuits through the Santa Rosa Rancheria during the summer was recently brought back to Kings County to face charges.
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Cesar Javier Valdivia after he eluded capture in two separate incidents on July 12 and 17, according to Sheriff's Cmdr. Dave Putnam. Arrest records show that after Valdivia fled Kings County on July 17, he was picked up in Fresno County on a possible hit-and-run case.
On Nov. 17, he was transferred here through a warrant served at the Fresno County Jail.
The 20-year-old man was booked on suspicion of numerous charges, including evading an officer, resisting arrest, driving with a suspended license and several narcotics- and alcohol-related offenses.
He first attracted the attention of law enforcement on July 12, when he fled from a California Highway Patrol unit during a routine traffic stop, according to a news release. Valdivia and his vehicle -- a white full-sized Chevrolet pickup truck with "Keller Motors" paper license plates -- were both identified before he escaped custody.
He was spotted again on July 17, leaving the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in the same vehicle at 1:30 a.m.
Kings County Sheriff's deputies pursued Valdivia for 20 minutes before the CHP was called in to deploy spike strips on the road. Valdivia reportedly drove straight through them, destroying three tires in the process, and continued to drive into the Rancheria.
He stopped in front of a residence on Yokut Court and fled on foot, ultimately escaping capture once again.
The pickup truck was towed and impounded as evidence.
Hours later, deputies received a call from Valdivia's brother, who said he wanted to report the truck stolen. A Sheriff's Office news release said they determined the report was false and that Valdivia had been the driver at the time of both pursuits.
In both incidents, nobody was injured.
The exact circumstances surrounding Valdivia's arrest in Fresno County could not be confirmed with either the Fresno area CHP or the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.
His bail was listed at $105,000.
